Comments on the massive fog of February 16, 2016

By Linda Waggener

This spring-like, sunny day may make us forget the hardest of winter when we were coming out from under a foot of snow into warmer temps and being shrouded everything in a massive fog. One of the most popular photos of that fog was the scenic unique view of Gradyville Baptist Church in Adair County at 159 Old Gradyvllle Church Road, Gradyvillle, KY.

Betsy Fausnaugh took an extra moment on her way to work February 16, 2016 to document the rare scene that stopped people in their tracks and drew great praise. A couple of the comments her photo drew follow:

Phillip Coffey wrote, "I love this photo. I have been by this church many times driving from Keltner Ridge.

Personal Commentary

As all my friends a-n-d enemies know, I'm a big talker so, just bear with me.

I learned a lot in 30 years of leading and sending thousands of firefighters onto mountain tops being ravaged by flames and into smoke-filled valleys where life and limb and sanity were often threatened.

Jon Halsey: Mencken quotes on the American mind, Presidency

Jon Halsey writes:
As time marches on I am becoming acutely aware of the perspicacity of an earlier observer of the American scene:
"No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public." - H.L. Mencken

"As democracy is perfected, the office of he President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be occupied by a downright fool and comlete narcissistic moron." - H.L. We Went to the Mountaintop But It Wasn't There -- how fitting a subtitle for the 2005 book from Wind Publications: Missing Mountains!

Two years ago in April 2005, a group of writers met on Lower Bad Creek near Hindman to view the results of mountaintop removal as a method of extracting coal from the Eastern Kentucky coal fields.

Letter: Pray for revival

Personal commentary by Chris Murphy

In recent attempts to prevent Christians from standing against alcohol, people have resorted to name calling. They refer to anyone who is against the sale of alcohol as hypocrites and other names. Some of these people claim to be Christians themselves. I have a couple things to say to that. First Not everyone who says I am a Christian is a Christian. Second there are those who are Christians who haven't come to a place of understanding in this area who may say things they regret later. Either way the proper response should be a response of love and forgiveness.
