Glenn Pittman, 63, Middleburg, KY (1952-2016)

He was a retired school bus driver with the Casey County Board of Education. He was the son of Wauneda Estes Pittman and the late Walter E. Pittman. His wife, Mary Elizabeth Pittman, survives. He leaves three direct and two step living descendants.

Mrs. Stephanie Ellen Clawson Hume, Franklin, KY (1984-2016)

She was the daughter of Charles Hyrum and Alicia Susana Croucher Clawson of Burkesville, KY. Her husband, Matthew David Hume of Franklin, KY, survives. She was a homemaker and a member of Hope in Messiah Church in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Her final resting place will be in the Marrowbone Christian Brotherhood Cemetery in Cumberland County, KY

Quarles sworn in as Kentucky's Commissioner of Agriculture

Frankfort, KY - Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles pledged to run an efficient, transparent Kentucky Department of Agriculture that advocates for Kentucky's agriculture industry as he and other state constitutional officers were sworn into office today in the Capitol Rotunda.

"Being the commissioner of agriculture for Kentucky has been a dream of mine since I was a child, and it is a great honor and privilege to serve as your next commissioner," he said. "Having grown up on a farm, I personally know the challenges and struggles that we will face as a community in the coming years. As your commissioner, I am committed to facing these challenges head-on and running a department of agriculture that will make all Kentuckians proud."

4-H Shooting Sports Camp is April 6-9, 2016

Are you between the ages of 9 and 13 and do you have an interest in shooting sports. Then the State 4-H Shooting Sports camp might be of interest to you. The camp will be held on April 6-9, 2016 at the Lake Cumberland 4-H Camp. 4-H members will have the opportunity to attend Shooting Sports Camp. During the camp, 4-H'ers learns safety and ethical handling of their firearms. Certified instructors will be presenting classes and range work. Each camper will learn responsible and safe use of firearms and how to shoot in the six disciplines of the shooting sports program. The six disciplines are: rifle, trap, archery, hunter challenge, and black powder pistol. Firearms and ammunition will be supplied to all the campers to use. Any camper, who does not have their orange card, will have the opportunity to qualify for it during the camp. There is a $140.00 registration fee that covers all expenses at camp and crafts. The Columbia City Council met with the briefest of agendas, with the approval of the December 7, 2015 minutes to marquee entry, but before the evening was over, a new program enhancing lighting from Columbia to the LBN Parkway, to ultimately create a Great White Way; an announcement that negotiations to take over 911 or contribute to it was made, plans to revise and renew a tax abatement plan for new businesses was introduced, and a meeting of a committee including Mayor Curtis Hardwick and Council Members Craig Dean and Linda Waggener, to review a proposed Panhandling Ordinance, was set.

CES students draw seascapes; learn use of watercolors

Campbellsville Elementary School second-grade students are drawing and coloring seascapes. After drawing fish, submarines, plants, boats and other creatures, students colored their seascapes with crayons.

Then, art teacher Adrienne Hash taught students how to use watercolor paints to add color to their sky, in the form of a sunset, and to their body of water.

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (7:36amCT Tue 05 Jan 2016) - An overnight fire has caused major damage to the Southbound Rest Area on I65 in Hart County. The blaze was reported just after 2amCT. The rest area is closed until further notice. Local fire crews from Horse Cave and Kentucky State Police fire investigation units are still on scene. We will release more information as it becomes available.
