Statement from Columbia VFW about future of AC Fairgrounds

For the last several months, members of Columbia VFW Post 6097 have held discussions with Lindsey Wilson College officials about the possible sale of the Adair County Fairgrounds to the college.

That conversation took a major step forward on Friday, Oct. 23, when the Lindsey Wilson Board of Trustees formally approved the college to acquire the fairgrounds. That means that college officials have been approved by their governing board to negotiate a purchase of the Adair County Fairgrounds.

Representatives from VFW Post 6097 and Lindsey Wilson met Monday, Oct. 26, to continue discussions about a possible sale of the Adair County Fairgrounds. During our conversation, Lindsey Wilson officials assured us that should the college acquire the Adair County Fairgrounds prior to July 15, 2016, the 2016 Adair County Fair & Horse Show would be permitted to happen as planned.

We appreciate Lindsey Wilson College's commitment to continuing the Adair County Fair & Horse Show through 2016.

Supt. Reed: Decision on Arts, Humanity pathway not a local one

Alan W. Reed writes
Please let your readers know that it was the decision of the new Commissioner and the Kentucky Department of Education to exclude Music and Arts as a viable career pathway. As a district, we share in the disappointment that we will not be able to start this new pathway that the state was going to allow. However, no classes in the arts are projected to be cut at ACHS. However, the classes will not be allowed as part of a career pathway. - Alan W. Reed, Superintendent

Decision on Arts & Humanities Pathway not a local one

State Department of Education based decision not to allow Arts & Humanities Pathway, according to letter from Commissioner Dr. Stephen Pruitt, says that A & H Career Pathway has not met two of four requirements for an Arts & Humanities career ready pathway.

By Phyllis Curry, Academic Dean, Adair Co. School District

I want to say thank you to all the local residents who have expressed concern about the decision by the Kentucky Department of Education to cancel or delay the Arts and Humanities Pathway. I want to clarify that this is in no way a local decision.

I want to assure all your readers that Adair County schools are very much on board with teaching the arts. In fact, the local board added an additional teacher at ACES this year so one teacher would not be teaching art, music and drama as had been the case since budget cuts had to be made several years ago.

Jennifer Parker: Amens Henrietta Scott stand on the arts

Jennifer Parker writes:
Amen, Henrietta! My son being one of those students who has a career in NYC using his art inspired talents today. If not for Henrietta at ACHS and his former teachers beginning in grade school inspiring him to follow his God given gift in the arts, he likely would have been one of your drop out statistics.
