Flood Fri 3 Jul 2015: temporary Tree Island Lake on Dillon Street

2015-07-03 - Dillon Street, Columbia, KY - Photo By Linda Waggener.
While driving around Columbia after the downpour with Linda looking for places where clogged culverts were causing flooding problems with pooling on roadways, I couldn't help but notice this Tree Island Lake on Dillon Street. The peepers seemed to be enjoying it. They could be heard rejoicing in a boon for frogdom, even if it created big problem for the City, County, and State Road Deparments around the county. - EW

The writer, Mike Newton, is the newest member of the Columbia/Adair County Utilities District.

Personal commentary

I suggest we wait and see exactly what the actual numbers are.

I was not involved when the decision in question was made, however, I do not disagree at this time. It is obvious that there are some differences in opinions on what has, and what will be taking place.

Ben Arnold: Agrees with Marsha Walker on nepotism policies

Ben Arnold writes:
I also agree with Marsha Walker and Billy Fudge on the need for policies on nepotism. The added complexity, especially for a small community like ours with many interconnected families, would be well worth the effort. We do this in my business. Any job application must declare any relationship and then rearrangements may be made or the person may not be hired. We can do the same on contracts.

We also need policies on other issues, such as the conduct of elections. Yes, we have the laws but policies force someone to reduce these to specific actions for instructions, especially useful at times of personnel turnover. - Ben Arnold

Saddened by loss of Jim Blair, a generous man

We are very saddened by the death of Jim Blair. Few people know how generous he was, from helping school families in need to donating his home and farm to Lindsey Wilson College. He also helped many ACHS graduates attend U of K, anonymously. These are just a few of his gifts. He will be greatly missed.
