At it's regular April 14, 2015 meeting Adair County Fiscal Court made several major decisions, but tabled one which occupied the magistrates for the longest segment: A request by the Breeding and Knifley Fire Departments to have fire dues billed with county tax bills.

Knifley Fire Chief C.R. Drake presented the proposal, with Breeding Fire Chief following and fielding questions.

Drake emphasized the bills would be a "fees" and not "taxes."

The court did vote to have County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison Corbin draft an ordinance for consideration at the next meeting.

Writer says drivers haven't learned, even after tragedy

She says, 'There's a way to fix the warnings on the Bypass; but how do you fix a lack of common sense?" citing a story about narrowly missing - by one second - being a part of a three car crash.

By Trish Zatkoff

(14 Apr 2015) - I just wanted to vent a bit, and I know you like it when people vent. I was driving on the bypass, coming back from Walmart today (Tuesday), with my son . . . I was going around 45 mph.

This little black car whipped around me and then in front of me, barely missing the car that was in the passing lane to my left . . . we were within 8 seconds of the main stoplight on the bypass.

Public meetings scheduled to discuss quail restoration plan

Those wishing to read the full quail report may access it online at fw.ky.gov, the website of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

by: Dave Baker

FRANKFORT, Ky. - A series of public meetings to discuss Kentucky's quail restoration successes and gather input about future efforts will kick off next week.

The recent release of Kentucky's 2015 Quail Benchmark Report details efforts over the past five years to restore quail habitat through the use of broad focus areas instead of concentrating on patchworks of small farms.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife officials will review the report at the public meetings. Department employees will discuss funding strategies for continuation of the effort then seek input from participants about how to proceed over the next five years. This could include creation of new quail focus areas and expansion of existing ones.

Letter: About the old wind chime clappers

Mitzi Bault writes:
When I had the store (Mitzi's) on the Public Square, I had a company to make them, and I sold them for $10.00 each. There are probably about 1,500 of the chimes out there. I sold a lot that went out of the state. People loved them. --Mitzi

Billy Joe Fudge: Streams are living, breathing ecosystems

Response to Comments re article 74571 Trash in creek timber debris biggest problem on 14 Apr 2015

By Billy Joe Fudge, Retired District Forester
Kentucky Division of Forestry

Streams are not canals with well defined channels that are engineered to remain stable for centuries which are created to carry water with little resistance to far away places. Canals are for the most part barren by nature in that they cannot survive on their own, reproduce themselves or support life.

MIKE WATSON: Flooding unforgiving threat

Click on headline for complete article with photo(s)

By Mike Watson

(1:21pmCT, 14 Apr 2017) -Looking at the high-water photographs on CM today proves that flooding is a real and unforgiving threat to humans, animals and property.

Just this past Saturday Mrs. Watson and I were very near this now flooded spot. We were on a mission to take photographs for a project. As we drove along, through Gradyville and environs, I recounted the history of the Gradyville Flood, noting the "trickle" that is Big Creek.

June 7, 2015 will mark the 108th anniversary of the tragic event that claimed so many lives. The accompanying photo is just one of the markers for flood victims of that night.

Trash in creek, timber debris, biggest problem on 14 Apr 2015

GADBERRY, KY (3:41pmCT, 14 Apr 2015) - I believe our greatest problem with the flooding this morning was caused by the trees and other trash keeping the water from going under our bridge. The creek coming out of the back of our farm is back within its banks. Pettit Fork Creek is pretty much back within its banks now. - CHARLES MARSHBURN
