Flooded Trace Creek in Miller Park, Taylor County

2015-04-14 - Photo By Austin Yates.
Cameras were clicking away in Adair and surrounding counties all morning as flood waters slowed and/or completely halted traffic. This scene is of Trace Creek looking at the little foot bridge that crosses from the parking lot to the picnic area in the Robert and Bernice Miller Park, Campbellsville. Normally the bridge is several feet above the stream but not today. Debris on the bridge shows that the water, at its highest, was over the bridge. Next earlier EMD story on Flooding 14 Apr 2015: Mike Keltner: Flooding 14 Apr 2015: Updates on Roads, Bridges

By Mike Keltner, Acting Emergency Management Director

After speaking with Road Supervisor Terry Corbin on road conditions I wanted to share that water levels continue to rise.

Roads Supervisor Corbin stated that the majority of low lying roadways have potential to be flooded and have the possibility of debris blocking travel.

Flooded roadways have became too numerous to name individually and travelers must be aware of these hazardous conditions. Remember Turn Around, Don't Drown when you encounter flooded roadways.

Governor's Mansion Children's Book now Available

Sam Saves the Mansion offers an educational, entertaining lesson on the historic Frankfort landmark. It is available on Google Play, in the iTunes store, and as a free 36MB PDF from ky.gov.

By: Parry Barrows

FRANKFORT, Ky. - A new children's book about the Kentucky Governor's Mansion, titled "Sam Saves the Mansion" is now available as a free, downloadable e-book. Paperback copies of the book are also available for students to read in public libraries and elementary schools across the state.

First Lady Jane Beshear, a former teacher, requested the book be produced as an educational resource for young Kentuckians in coordination with the Governor's Mansion Centennial Celebration in 2014.

"Sam Saves the Mansion is both informative and entertaining," said Mrs. Beshear. "It not only provides young readers with a rich history and a visual tour of the mansion, but the story also imparts some important lessons on friendship, compassion and doing the right thing."
