Rising vocalist Kasey Lansdale visits Downtown Columbia

Promoting her single, "Sorry Aint Good Enough," from her 2013 "Restless" album produced by John Carter Cash, Kasey Lansdale of Nacogdoches, Texasn and Julie Gibb, of Toronto, Canada, and an inspiring member of her force are on a nationwide tour which included Columbia. On Monday, she was interviewe by WAIN Radio, 93.5 FM's Lisa Fisher-Clark, then made time to visit Downtown Columbia - 'A quaint, authentic real town' that she and and Julie Gibb both say they'd like to visit again sometime.

Gov. Beshear orders flags lowered for Ft. Campbell Soldier

News from Gov. Beshear's Communications Office

FRANKFORT, KY - Governor Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff Thursday, July 10, in honor of Staff Sgt. Jason A. McDonald, a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Services for Staff Sgt. McDonald, who died June 9, will be at 12pmCT/1pmET, Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Arlington National Cemetery.

According to the Department of Defense, Staff Sgt. McDonald, 28, of Butler, Georgia, died in Gaza Village, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered while engaged in a combat operation. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute of lowering the flag in honor of Staff Sgt. McDonald.

  • Court awards $7,000 to C/AC airport operation
  • Court delays closing L. Hancock Road bridge
  • Court reject boom mower bid by Whayne Supply; will advertise with slightly different specs
  • County Treasurer reports $706,831.18 reconciled balance in all funds at end of June, 2014
  • Court approves Jail, Jail Quarterly Report
  • Judge Melton authorized to complete bonding for Jail construction work
  • Court approves Sheriff's report
  • The court orders approved, including $2,500 to Knifley Area Volunteer Fire Department
  • A.L. Sinclair announces $78,000 grant; urges county take control

John Rarey delivered the "State of the Airport," report at the Tuesday night, July 8, 2014, Adair Fiscal Court meeting. The report on this vital economic development, tourism, and safety pillar was met with enthusiasm and the court voted to pay the $7,000.00 annual funding for the airport this year, despite a somewhat tight budget.

James Edward (Jim Ed) Cary, Cumberland Co., KY (1931-2014)

He was a longtime asphalt roller operator, beginning his career in 1947 for Cumberland Construction, later working for Ford and Son Paving for over 20 years, and for Scotty's Construction before retiring. He was a native of Cumberland County and a resident of the county at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Floyd and Opal Anderson Cary and the widower of Grace Goff Cary.

She was a homemaker, former employee of Liberty Sportswear, and a member of the Yosemite Baptist Church. She loved crocheting, cooking and working in her flowers. Barbara enjoyed watching Westerns on TV and listening to Elvis Presley and the Gaithers. She was th daughter of gthe late Carolos and Gladys Basin Bradshaw and the widow of Claud Daniel. She leaves 45 direct living descendants spanning four generations.

According to Wikipedia, Biltmore House, the main house on the Biltmore Estate, is a Châteauesque-styled mansion built by George Washington Vanderbilt II between 1889 and 1895 and is the largest privately owned house in the United States"

Adair Co. Adult Education encourages adults to take advantage

New $10 pricing for each module for GED(R) tests. Approximately 2506 adult residents of Adair County lack high school credentials. - LeANNA BENNETT

FRANKFORT, KY - Kentucky Adult Education (KYAE) has announced that, beginning July 7, 2014, eligible adults may take each module of the GED(R) test at the reduced rate of $10, as a result of $20 vouchers being provided to eligible individuals.

With the use of these limited-time vouchers, the cost of a full GED(R) test will be only $40. The regular cost of the full battery of GED(R) testing modules is $120, so this represents an $80 savings to test takers.
