William (Billy) Glover, Russell Co., KY (1957-2014)

He was a native of Indiana and a resident of Jamestown, KY at the time of his death. His wife, Debbie Glover, survives. He leaves two direct descendants.

Rogers Explorers help with GRL at Holmes Bend Cleanup

Rogers Explorers picked up litter in Columbia while at Lindsey Wilson College in June. COLUMBIA, KY - Future leaders from 13 counties recently got a hands-on lesson in community service in Columbia. On June 11, 30 students spent two hours picking up litter in the Holmes Bend area of Green River Lake.

The cleanup event was the community service project for the 2014 class of Rogers Explorers. The students, who will be ninth graders this fall, were from Adair, Casey, Clinton, Green, Laurel, Martin, Metcalfe, Monroe, Pike, Pulaski, Rowan, Russell and Taylor.

Program deisgned to help teach youth life lessons through agriculture

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Agriculture Commissioner James Comer, Louisville officials, and local youth broke ground on a program designed to teach young people about nutrition and how to grow, cook, market, and sell their own food.

Commissioner Comer was joined by Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and District 1 City Councilwoman Attica Scott to launch the Seed to Sale initiative July 2 at the Parkland Boys and Girls Club at 3200 Greenwood Avenue, Louisville, KY. Participating youth members from the Parkland club presented each dignitary with a new shovel and helped them plant the first summer crop.

Kentucky Arts Council awards Folk Arts Apprenticeships

FRANKFORT, KY - The Kentucky Arts Council has awarded $9,000 in grants to three master traditional and folk artists who will spend the next year teaching skills and practices vital to the state's cultural heritage to apprentice artists working in the same art form.

The arts council's Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Grants facilitate and support the recognition and continuation of Kentucky cultural traditions. Funding allows apprentice artists to study face-to-face with masters in their field to advance toward the same status within a specific folk art community.

Anne Elizabeth (Liz) Shaw, Taylor County, KY (1923-2014)

She was valedictorian of the 1940 graduating class of Campbellsville High School. She professed faith in Christ and was a faithful member of Campbellsville Baptist Church, She was retired bookkeeper from McMahan Cherry Furniture Company. She was a native of Taylor County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Robert Roy Ramsey and Velma Webster Ramsey and the widow of Ellis Russell Shaw, her husband of over 56 years. She leaves 7 direct living descendants.

State Animal Control Board offers funding for animal shelters

FRANKFORT, KY - The Kentucky Animal Control Advisory Board (ACAB) is seeking applications for grants for animal shelter construction and improvement projects. Applicants will compete for $60,000 in grant funds.

Twenty percent of the total project cost must be contributed locally. Contributions may include cash, land, and/or labor. Only county or urban-county governments may apply. An application may be submitted by one county or by multiple counties under one application.

The demand for locally grown fruit, berries and vegetables far exceeds our current supply. You do not need to be an Adair County resident to participate in the Farmer's Market on the Square.

Everyone can set their minds at ease. The "gardening hat" is nothing more than a hamburger on a plate that is painted on the outside window of Moore's. I would speculate, as a photojournalist, based on the shooting angle of the photographer, that the "body and arm" is that of the photographer himself. Even with the lack of direct sunlight, glass is very reflective and it seems that the "person" in the window is nothing more than a reflective illusion.
