Comment: A conflict or a war? By Ed Heustis The United States has not declared war since 1941. Many think it is because a declaration of war gives the President (commander in chief) too much power. All military involvement since has been a military action or conflict although we usually refer to these conflicts as war IE Vietnam War. - Ed Heustis Comments re article 66465 Briar Hopper On how to refer veteran of Korean War 2014-04-05 09:13:54 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Veterans and Veterans Day

Briar Hopper: On how to refer veteran of Korean War Note: the headline was written at CM, not from the Governor's Office and has been changed. It was written as it was to save space to make a one line headline. Did note that the usage Mr. Hagy prefers is not universal. The National Park Service operates the "Korean War Veterans Memorial" in Washington, DC. And television station WPSD in Paducah, said "Korean War Veteran" referring to their Jackson Purchase native sun. We are often taken to task or referring to the fighting as the "Korean War," just because many remember that, when Dean Acheson was Secretary, it was "the Korean Conflict." But Kenneth Scott of Adair County, who was there, said "It was WAR." He's our authority on that subject." Still, we appreciate Mr. Hagy's point made in the interest of more clarity in communications - a goal we share with him. By Briarhopper/BJ Hagy This headline, whether it came from the Governor's office or if it was created by someone else (Perhaps by the one's taking credit as shown below, "By Kerri Richardson & Terry Sebastian," is incorrect. Never in a million years should a US military serviceman or servicewoman be referred to as a, "Korean War veteran."
