Remembering Peter Arnett: Wonderful man with huge heart

By Kenny Absher

Peter Arnett, 80, of Campbellsville died on Tuesday. He was a volunteer of the C&S Mission Shop on Knifley Road, Campbellsville, KY,for many years. C&S Mission Shop has helped many people for many years. They are a part of the St. Vincent de Paul Society which provides meals for the homeless in every major city - and small ones, too, where needed.

Peter was a wonderful man with a huge heart and many here will know who he is if you printed his obituary. Peter was born and reared in Coventry, England and served his Majesty's Military service. There are few people I admired as much I did him. - Kenny Absher

Adair Recycling Center is now taking glass

Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story

District 2 Magistrate Daryl Flatt called this morning to let everyone know that the Adair Recycling Center is now accepting glass for recycling. "I talked to A.L. (A.L. Sinclair, Adair County Solid Waste Coordinator) this morning and he said that the Recycling Center has a taker for glass products. He said we won't get any payment for the glass at this time, but it will mean less glass going into the landfill.

Magistrate Flatt said that this should mean a great deal to the City of Columbia. "The landfill is paid by tonnage," he said, "and glass is heavy. Recycling the glass instead of putting it in the landfill could provide a major savings for the city."

The Adair Recycling Center is located at 62 Service Road, Columbia, KY. Hours are 7am-3pmCT, Monday through Friday, and 8am-12pm noon CT on Saturday. The phone number is 270-378-0782. Information is also available in County Judge Executive Ann Melton's office, Suite 1, Adair Annex, 427 Public Square, Columbia, KY. Phone 270-284-4703.
