There was lots of Holly between Green R. & Pellyton Cemetery

Frank Dickerson writes:
During the late forties and early fifties there were tons of mature Holly trees in the swampy area between the Pellyton cemetery and the Green river. How they got there is unknown to me, but they had obviously been growing there for a good long while and were always loaded with fat berries. --Frank Dickerson

A Handsome Drug Store: the Paull Building, 1911

By JIM

From early spring through the closing days of 1911, the west corner of the Square was a happening place, with the April 5th edition of the News reporting a number of changes coming to that part of the Square. One very nearly needs a sharp pencil and a scorecard to keep up with all that's packed into these few lines: *The Paull Drug Company will remove their stock of goods into the building, now occupied by Mr. W.H. Wilson, the 15th of this month. Mr. Wilson will remove his groceries into the ell of the same building. The building in which the Paull Drug Co., is now doing business, will be razed, and a brick structure, running back to the alley, will be erected which will be occupied, when completed, by the drug company. Messrs. Frank Sinclair and G.W. Dillon will build on their lot at the same time. It is our understanding that Mr. W.H. Wilson has the [right of first] refusal of this building when ready for occupancy. The two will be handsome buildings and will add greatly to appearance of the square.*

Letter: On Holly Trees

Paul Patton writes:
The Holly Tree is one of my favorites. For many years a beautiful Holly Tree stood in the front yard of Campbellsville Christian Church. Through the years there was discussion by the church board about trimming the tree or possibly cutting it down. In some of these board notes the tree was referred to as the Holy Tree. Eventually the tree was removed.

In my front lawn there grows one of the most beautiful, perfectly formed Holly Trees I have ever seen. It was grown by Rob Roberts and transplanted to my lawn around 18 years ago. From the berries growing on this tree numerous seedlings have emerged in our landscaping and I have transplanted about a dozen of these to our farm where some have grown to the height of 10 to 12 feet. This is where my Holly Trees came from.

Also, I recall Holly Trees growing near some of the older homes on Riffe Creek sixty-five years ago. --Paul Patton
