Scenic Marion Co., KY: Swinging Bridge near Casey Co line

Writer's grandfather, Mann Evans, a Civil War veteran, owned adjoining farm and often held parties which drew hundreds of folks in the yard, the men all dressed in their northern uniforms.

By Cindy Wilson

This swinging bridge was owned by Milford & Louise Evans when I was a child from the 1960's and 70's.

I made many trips over that bridge to eat dinner with them. They always had a table full of delicious food consisting of fresh vegetables and cornbread.Marion Co KY Swinging Bridge near Casey Co line

Letter: Remembers Swinging Bridge in Marion Co.

Larry Burchell writes:
This swinging bridge is located about 5-6 miles out of Bradfordsville on south 49. It was owned by Milford and Louise Evans. The river is South Fork River. As a kid growing up just a few miles from this farm, I helped my father to put new walkway planks on this bridge. - Larry Burchell

Pecans on Sanders Ridge at the Dean Vannoy Place

Though farm was one a big commercial enterprise, the pecans aren't sold. 'They are just for me and the crows and squirrels and people I give them to - or let them pick up,' Dean Vannoy says.

It's sometimes easy to forget that Adair County has had in the past, good pecan production.

It was mostly centered around the Green River Country, and much of the production was ended with the coming of Green River Lake.

Dean Vannoy, who was known over three counties for the wonderful watermelons and cantaloupes he and his family grew on Sanders Ridge, still maintains sixteen pecan trees. He wonders why more people don't have them.
