Mike Watson: On KY Confederate Soldier, Thomas Thompson Comments re article 60592 Query re Confederate Soldier Thomas PattersonThompson By Mike Watson Adair County Historian The closest I can find for a Kentucky Confederate soldier is: Thomas Thompson, private, Company I, 3rd Kentucky Mounted Infantry, CSA, enlisted 4 or 5 July 1861 at Camp Boone, in Tennessee, age 22, "died at Bowling Green on Dec 13 [18]61 of fever." A search of Confederate records indicates a number of men named Thomas Thompson, but with a different middle initial - J, T, W, etc., but most of these men died later on in the war, or survived. Had a Confederate died in Adair County in December 1861, he would either have been sick and made it back home to the county, or it would have been in some type of minor action, since Columbia was at that time chock-full of Union soldiers, not only at Camp Boyle, but all around the town. There were, however, a very large number of Union soldiers who died in December 1861 in and around Columbia with various fevers, measles, and typhoid. - Mike Watson 2013-07-08 15:55:54 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Mike Watson - History
Sandy Beach is closed due to flooding By Larry Smith, 99.9 FM, the Big Dawg Sandy Beach on Lone Valley Road is closed due to flood waters. Water is rising faster in Green River Lake than the Corps of Engineers can discharge without causing flooding down Green River Lake between the dam in Taylor County and Greensburg, KY. If possible, I'll get photos. Reports are that the water is up in the picnic area. - Larry Smith, Operations Director, Shoreline Communications 2013-07-08 15:49:51 | Comments | Printable version

Agrees with Carol Perkins on Paula Deen issue Peg Schaeffer writes: Right on Carol Perkins. Paula Deen lost her sponsors for using the "N" word. How many times do you hear the "F" word on TV or anywhere else. Do you see anyone getting persecuted for this? Michael Vick tortured and killed Pit Bulls, spent some time in jail, and is now being sponsored by Nike, Subway, and even received the John Courage Award. So I guess murder is OK. Just don't use the "N" word. - Peg SchaefferComments re article 60572 Agrees with Carol Perkins on Paula Deen 2013-07-08 05:00:46 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback Birthdays and Anniversaries for July 8 Happy Anniversary, Randy and Angie Smith | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Ronnie and Joyce Kelley | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Addie Elise Baker (2009) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Andrew Benton Green | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Annette Curry | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Benjamin Bault, (1984) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Christian Ford (1993) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Corbin E.
