GRAS Executive Cats: Shetney and Sylvester

2013-04-04 - GRAS, 455 Jim Blair Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo CM staff photo. The Green River Animal Shelter has 14 cats available for adoption today, Shetney, left and Sylvester not included. They are part of the Executive Staff, occcasionally handling Customer Service, as they were this week when the photo was taken. Sandy Ford, the Director says that some days, Shetney, who is bipolar bordering on a bit evil, is vexing. He makes sudden seven o'clock crazies moves at any time of the day. When he appears calm, as above, she knows, even without looking into his eyes the way he is above, that he's plotting his next move. In this case, it was to knock some dead AA camera batters off the desk and use them for pucks in a solo cat hockey contest. Sylvester, on the other hand, seems to be computer literate, is all business, a pillar of the shelter and is climbing the corporate ladder steadily, one rung at a time. Of the other cats - the fourteen available for adoption - you can see them yourself at Green River Animal Shelter, 455 Jim Blair Drive (try also Appleby Drive on GPS), Columbia, KY. Hours: Tues-Sat. 8am-5pmCT/9am-6pmET. Closed Sunday and Monday. Phone: 270-385-9655. email: gras@windstream.net

BJF Comment: Big Trees II - The Miller timber sale in 1905

Cruising the numbers, forester extrapolates some pretty impressive values, in today's dollars, for the fabulous tract of timber sold in 1905 by the Miller Estate

By Billy Joe Fudge

What an honor to be mentioned in the same sentence with Mike Watson but for you to dedicate this bit of history to me is a compliment of the highest degree.

These tallies of trees are a very special real record of the kind of forest the first South Central Kentuckians, our forefathers, would have had the pleasure of experiencing.

Appreciates work of Green River Animal Shelter - GRAS

Comments re photo 48986 At GRAS Director Sandy Ford with lovable Cinnamon

Tami Wilson writes:
So glad to see pics of a pet from GRAS on ColumbiaMagazine!! I think it's a great way to keep the community informed as to the wonderful pets which are available, and in need good, caring homes, and to keep people interested in what's going on at the shelter.

I hope that one day we'll be able to have "no kill" policies for our animal companions, in all of KY, except in cases where they are suffering greatly from untreatable illnesses or conditions. It is sad that we live in a society which kills healthy animals, and do not spay and neuter pets so that they will not produce more unwanted, unloved offspring.

I hope this will be a regular feature on CM!! Please adopt a shelter or rescue pet- adopt love!! - Tami Wilson
Thanks, Tami Wilson - As you probably know, Green River Animal Shelter is currently run by people who seem to have exactly your goals. The concern for each animal by all the staff, the cleanliness, and the first hand communication by the animals at GRAS - talk to any of the dogs or cats there (but don't trust the gray executive tabby cat who frequently comes out into the lobby ; it's bipolar and not reliable and a trickster, albeit an entertaining rogue) - and you see it firsthand. There's an evident communication that each knows it's loved. If CM can be of help, we want to be. - EW

The freecycling ad I placed this week

Marsha Walker writes:
I don't see the classified link on CM, but I was able to give away the metal items I advertised, the same day I posted it. Thanks very much for the opportunity to give to others the things we don't use or need. - Marsha Walker
Thanks, Marsha Walker - Just checked again, and there are no ads in Freecycling. That's the case more often than not. We hope your letter encourages others to reclaim more space by giving away stuff which would be useful to someone else. Thanks for the letter. - CM
