Beloved Ellie is missing

2013-02-22 - Little Cake - Photo by W.C. Gousha.
OUR BELOVED ELLIE IS MISSING from Little Cake Road. She is a gray/black and brown tabby with a brown star on her forehead. She is small is stature and hops in her back in when she is walking. One of her back legs is shorter than the other but that doesn't hinder her from running faster than the others kitties around here. She went missing Tuesday during the daytime hours, when we had come home from work she wasn't around the house, and all of our other cats were accounted for. All of our kitties except for 1 or 2 are inside at night and out during the daytime hours for some fresh air. I have hiked all around this area for 2 days and can not even find where a struggle could have taken place. The last time I posted on columbiamagazine.com about missing our Tater, he showed up, wounded but okay. I am hoping for the same success this time. If anyone has seen her in the past couple of days please contact us at 270-384-1776. Thank you so much. - WENDY GOUSHA and BEN BRISCOE

Yet Again. From Jason Rector

Our sincere apologies to President Rector of the Kentucky Constables Asssociation, 6th District Adair County Constable, and resident of Columbia, KY. When we're wrong, we're wrong. - ED WAGGENER

By Jason Rector
Personal opinion of writer, the President of the Kentucky Association of Constables and an employee of the Adair County School District

Ed, This is not the first time I've sent you things and you don't even not only acknowledge back to me that you receive the information but you don't even bother posting anything I send to you.

I'm very disappointed in your business and services anymore because you used to be top notch with getting anything I ever sent in the past posted and information out across your site.

People have asked me why don't you ever send Ed anything about things that I'm involved in or projects that occur or have happened. This is the exact example reason and I have even shared the past experience with a few and will more now since you seem to pick and choose what is important to you in posting and not with the general public. It's obvious that you are selective in posting things for and about certain events or things that occur.

Respectively,

--Jason Rector Sorry about that: We'll try to do better. The photo was posted some three hours before your letter arrived. At Golden Alert training session We are driven, to a degree, by metrics and interest in this area. In the meantime, please be assured we wish you well in your work in the IT department at the Adair County School District. Again, apologies. - EW

History: How Esto got its name, from Tine Snow Reynolds

Russell County: She invites JIM to do further research. Says too much importance is given to the Phelpses in matters related to the area; including conclusions based on their prominence in later times, even suggesting a certain timidness in the Phelpses when others were sallying forth from the security of Fort Boonesborough. CM leaves these matters to real historians. Our basic interest in Esto is its eminence as a cornerstone of the Sacred Triangle - Sano, Ono, Esto. - EW

By Tine S Reynolds

ESTO (Russell Co.) - Where did Esto get its name? A continuation of a story told (JIM: Local history: How Esto, Russell Co., KY got its name), that the name Esto was taken from the long name of a young African-American living in the neighborhood. His last name was Barger and he was born in 1872 or 1873. (P. O. started in 1876.)

We have not found any primary source confirmation of this story, but this young man's family was certainly an important part of the culture of my family's history, not far from Esto, at that time.

Boil water. Higher water bills. Is something wrong with the picture?

Comments aboutBoil Water Advisory Issued for area on Northside Columbia, KY Steve York writes:
This is really nice. Water bills go up and we have to boil the water before we can use it. Is there something wrong with this picture? - Steve York
Thanks, Steve: Yes. You're right, There's is something terribly wrong with the picture. The picture was painted a long time ago. The situation created by decades of hiding and ignoring problems, refusing to put water and sewer on a paying basis. It was cowardly, irresponsible, and politically inspired, pandering to the lowest common denominators. Past non-leaders built up mountains of costly problems for children and grandchildren to pay for - that's what we are confronting today. For the moment, all that is being turned around. The utilities are confronting problems, and there will be a cost, for the moment, for a brighter future ahead. - EW
