What's the fuss about picture of Bourbon Whiskey

Comments re photo 48076 Epicurean Kentuckian New Years Meal Mary Smith writes:
I'm still trying to understand why this photo needs to be cropped. Is it because the beverage looks like Bourbon whiskey or some other kind of alcohol? What's the problem? Alcohol is legal in the United States of America and legal in Frankfort, KY. - Mary Smith
Mary Smith: This is Adair County, KY. The 18th amendment of the U.S. Constitution is still revered here, and drinking is on a don't ask don't tell basis.

KY Human Rights director responds to Casey man's yard display

"The so-called yard display sends a message of hatred and blatant disregard of one's fellows. I can imagine that the larger citizenry of the town of Liberty and Casey County is embarrassed by this piece of news, and I am confident this is not the attitude of the majority of citizens in Casey County." - Kentucky Commission on Human Rights Executive Director John J. Johnson

By Victoria Stephens

Kentucky Commission on Human Rights executive director responds to Casey County man's yard display of the United States president.

LIBERTY in CASEY COUNTY, KY, USA (January 2, 2013) - During the holidays, it came to light through the media, that Casey County, Kentucky, resident Danny Hafley had in his front yard near a well-traveled road a life-size mannequin that depicted U.S. President Barack Obama holding a piece of watermelon. News photos show the standing figure wearing a suit, a wide smile, and holding up a slice of melon from which a bite has been taken. The figure's arms hold up the object as if poised to eat. (The photograph was published by Television News Channel Lexington [Ky.] 18 on Dec. 24, 2012)

Epicurean Kentuckian - Black-eyed peas tradition from Civil War

Tamra Wilson writes:
I noticed that on CM, there's still a question posted about the tradition of black-eyed peas as a Southern New Year's tradition. I'm guessing that someone has responded, by now, or that the person who asked has surely found the answer, but, if not, here's a link to one of many articles about it online. Black-Eyed Peas A Southern Tradition for Luck and Prosperity in the New Year by Sheridan Alexander, About.com Guide.
Thanks, Tamra Wilson Maybe everyone else knew this, but it was news to me. Thanks. -EW
