Jean McLean was a link to writer's childhood, happy days

'She was such a supporter of all things in her community, especially Lindsey Wilson. A great loss to her friends and community.' - NANCY MORAN FOUSER

Nancy Moran Fouser writes:
I grew up about a mile from the Dohoneys. Our families had known each other for many years.Jean, Kathleen and Glenn were my great friends as I was growing up. In later years I saw Jean often for lunch or to play bridge when I was in Columbia. It was almost like Jean was a link to my childhood and many happy times.

It seems at any crisis in my life Jean was always there. I shall surely miss her. She was such a positive person and always smiling. I was fortunate to know Jean, her parents, and family. She was such a supporter of all things in her community, especially Lindsey Wilson. A great loss to her friends and community. --Nancy Moran fouser

Remembering Jean McLean: She was avid supporter of LWC

By Gary Lane
President Lindsey Wilson National Alumni Association

I will always remember Jean McLean as an avid supporter of Lindsey Wilson College. I have been associated with the Alumni Council since the early 1990's and until recent years when her health was failing I cannot remember going to a meeting that she did not attend. Her attitude was always for the betterment of the students at Lindsey Wilson.

She was always positive and had a heart of service. She was a gracious, respectful lady. I am sure she had this same passion for other services in her life but I only knew of her service and love for Lindsey Wilson. She will be so missed by students, faculty and those who strive to assist Lindsey Wilson in its service to students of south central Kentucky. --Gary Lane President Lindsey Wilson National Alumni Association

Two dogs, one a chicken chaser, lodged in Gadberry Gaol

In protective custody - but neither has shown any real meanness

By Charles Marshburn

I have two dogs that came for a visit at my farm this morning.

The little brown one had a great time chasing my guineas and chickens but I caught her before she incriminated herself.

The black dog appears to be 4 or 5 months old. Neither of them showed any meanness.

They are fed and watered and waiting to hear from their owner(s). No identification on the very loose collars that slipped off on their way to my pen.

I will send a picture of them as soon as my wife comes home to show me how to do such. Phone 270-378-6524. - Charles Marshburn

April Sheppard: G. Kolbenschlag tree-like vine: Oriental Bittersweet

April Shepperd writes:
This is definitely Oriental Bittersweet. Based on the rounded shape of the leaves and the color of the shell of the berries, this is the more intrusive Oriental variety. Oriental bittersweet has pale capsules, while those of the American bittersweet are orange in color. The capsules also contain five smaller fruits, instead of only one larger fruit. Oriental Bittersweet grows more rapidly, and because of the number of seeds, it has a reproductive advantage over the native species. As beautiful as they are, this plant has the ability to girdle and overtop adjacent vegetation - often to the detriment of native species. - April Shepperd

Columbia Church of Christ salutes its veterans

Click on headline for story with photo(s)

By Dean Roach

The Columbia Church of Christ would like to salute all the veterans of this great nation. The constitution is a worthless piece of paper without those to defend it. The active duty military and veterans are the ones who give us our freedom, not the government. We'd like to express our appreciation to those veterans who assemble with us:

Brandon Branham (Active Duty Air Force), C.J. Holt, (Army) Dale Thomas (Navy) Jimmy Stone (Army), Kris Knight, (USMC) Jeremy Phillips, (Active Duty Navy) Ronnie Stone (Army). Charles Rickman, Tom Adler - Dean Roach, minister, The Columbia Church of Christ, 501 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY.
