Kentucky Color: The harvest Click on headline for essay with photo(s) By Billy Joe Fudge, Retired District Forester Kentucky Division of Forestry My Dogwood drupes are rapidly disappearing thanks to Blue Jays, Blackbirds, and a plethora of species of birds. They come in droves and they come individually to dine on, drop and dislodge this year's bumper crop of Dogwood seed. Quite a joy to watch and hear their feeding frenzy and then occasionally a rain of blue, Jaybird feathers will fall from the nearby pine as a sobering reminder to man and Jaybird alike that Ol' Chickenhawks must partake of sustenance, also. A very moving documentary plays out in the panorama of our lives each and every hour of each and every day. It is truly a detriment to our humanity and spiritual well-being that we spend our lives seeking knowledge, meaning, and contentment in a manmade facade of perceived learning, entertainment, and reality while ignoring the majesty, might, and magnificence of the creation which longs to wrap us in peace, pleasantness and the pageantry of place. - Billy Joe Fudge 2012-10-14 10:08:28 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Kentucky Color by Billy Joe Fudge
