He was a member of a large, respected Adair County Family. He was a retired saw mill worker

Joseph Burton age 63 years of the Portland Community in Adair County passed away Monday March 19, 2012 at 5:33amCT, at his home.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 11amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQuearyFuneral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, with Bro. Willard Bryant the officiating clergy. Interment will be in the Lovedale Cemetery, 2950 Allen Schoolhouse Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 4pmCT, Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at the funeral home.

One injured in collision in Loretto, KY

LORETTO, KY - Trooper Morris Farris is working a collision that occurred at approximately 2:10pmCT, in the limits of Loretto on KY49.

The collision occurred when a 2002 GMC pickup truck, operated by Thomas Calvin Newton, age 54, of Loretto, was traveling Northbound on KY 49 and attempted to make a left hand turn into the parking lot of Loretto Foodland.

Newton's vehicle turned into the path of a 1998 Nissan, operated by Michael F. Hayslip, age 61, of New Haven, who was traveling Southbound on KY49.

Chewning, Benjamin F.--AG has Chenning, 1st Sergeant, Company G, 13 KY Infantry, enrolled as private 23 September 1862 Camp Andy Johnson, age 18; mustered 31 December 1861 Camp Hobson; often detailed as wagoner, promoted to 1st Sergeant 26 September 1864; mustered out 12 January 1865 Louisville; born 29 January 1844, died 31 January 1933, buried Columbia City Cemetery; married Sarah A. Cowherd 1865 Green County; was part owner and operator of a livery stable in Columbia, Adair County and was a US government gauger for distilleries for some years. Baptist and a Mason.

State of Adair, State of Columbia: Today at The Pines at Noon

The public is invited, as well as Chamber members.

Adair Countians will be gathering today to hear the local equivalent to the State of the Union and the State of the Commonwealth speeches, when Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton and Columbia Mayor Mark D. Harris speak at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon at Mulligan's at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson.

Judge Melton will discuss challenges the county faces with Westlake Hospital, the animal shelter, 911, and the jail, as well as constraints faced by the county road department budget, but she will also be discussing new opportunities for improvements in the jobs picture and other bright spots in the economy and advancements during the the past year.

Mayor Harris said that he will be reporting on progress with the departments within City Government, and advances made through City/County cooperative measures. "We are working together so well now," he said, and added that this cooperation has helped the community get through some rough economic times better than would have been otherwise.
