JIM: Judge Orders Plastering Knocked Off Courthouse!

By JIM

You'll forgive the sensationalized subject line. The always-thin atmosphere up here north of Green River has caused most of my brain to seize up.

From the Adair County News, November 19, 1919

[Circuit] Judge J.C. Carter is to be congratulated. Before the close of the last term of his court he made an order, directing the Fiscal Court of Adair County to have the plastering knocked off the main auditorium of the court-house, and a metal ceiling put on. The plastering has been falling off and it has been dangerous for some time. The work must be completed before the next term of Circuit Court.

CJE agrees: There are endless Possibilities for the Courthouse

Ann Melton writes:
What a great article on the Courthouse. The message sent: The possiblilites are endless.

I would love to see people who have business ideas have the opportunity to start with space provided in the courthouse. I think it would be great for folks to send in their ideas to Columbia Magazine.

The building belongs to the people, so here is the challenge: What would you, the people of Adair County, like to see locate downtown?Let's see how many different opinions we can get.

Good Job, CM.

KSP launches Thanksgiving Holiday enforcement

Some holiday, conditions behavior a recipe for disaster; it's the most dangerous holiday of the year for motorists, but the Kentucky State Police offer tips, and added enforcement for a safer holiday

By Lt. David Judge
Kentucky State Police Headquarters

FRANKFORT, KY - Thanksgiving is the most dangerous holiday of the year for motorists, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This includes the four-day holiday driving period surrounding that date when heavy traffic, weather and long-distance road trips combine to create severe travel conditions. Often, family celebrations include alcohol, which later evolves into impaired driving. Add that to heavy holiday traffic, and you have a recipe for disaster.

Progress on Historic Adair Courthouse is so impressive

The Adair County Way at its Best: The Clean-up and Sprucing up is paying off big, already, in opening eyes to pragmatic possibilities for Preservation, Profits, and Potential right now, with a community centerpiece which is, in itself, a treasure few other villages, towns, or cities in America has - or could afford, what Columbia/Adair County already has -CM

By Ed Waggener

I was so impressed with the progress on the Adair County Courthouse this past week and can't wait to see it when the Adair Heritage Association shows it off on December 3, 2011, for Christmas in Columbia, 2011.
