Advice for the advice-seeking Mr. Marshburn

Perhaps good neighbors would provide elderflower plantings to spare and share for digging

Sharon Whitehurst writes:
A quick search turned up this from wikipedia: Sambucus canadensis (syn. S. nigra ssp canadensis; American Elder; eastern North America; with blue-black berries)

This appears to be the elderberry which is widely naturalized here. They are easy to spot in hedgerows and pastures just now with the foamy white blossoms in evidence.

I'm guessing that perhaps Adair countians who are neighbors to Mr. Marshburn might have a few to spare and share for the digging. --Sharon Whitehurst

Maury Lewis comments on best source for American flags

Comments re article 45119 The City has 120 new flags most already up for July 4

Maury Lewis writes:
I would like to say to those who will be buying flags to display, look to see where the flag was made before you purchase it.

I seems Un-American to buy an American flag made in China or some other country.

"You're a grand old flag, forever in peace may you wave.God Bless America, land that I love, stand beside her and guide her. "--Maury Lewis
Thanks. You make a very good point for the next purchase; and these may have been manufactured in America. I'm not going to ask, this time. I'm elated that the new ones are in place and look so good - wherever they were made. -EW

The Adair County School Board completed a number of end of fiscal year duties at a relatively brief regular June 21, 2011 board meeting, including awarding of annual bids, rehiring the district treasurer, and adopted a number of contracts, in addition to recognizing Excellence in Teaching award recipients and the fabulous Academic Teams.

The meeting time was more than doubled with a tabulation of the performance of the superintendent's performance, which took place in an executive session, which was subsequently and unanimously approved after the superintendent's signing the documents.

THURSDAY with CM. June 23, 2011

Poem by W.M. Feese, Jr.: Never Satisfied
Photo at right by Pen: Crocus, Adair Co., KY
Never satisfied
by W. M. Feese
Warm weather was a wish
Back when winter was here
That our wish has come true
Is now perfectly clear

However, today in this
Nice summer heat
We long for the days
When snow covered the street

We're never satisfied
With what the seasons bring
But - personally for me,
I'll settle for spring
W.M. Feese, June 23, 2010

These immortal words of the Poet W.M. Feese were first printed one year ago, June 23, 2010, and are appropriately and fittingly commemorated on this anniversary.
