2010-11-30 - Photo by Ed Waggener. 300 Block of Parrott Avenue, Columbia, KY
Ralph Roy Waggener editor of It's Just for a Smile News discovered this convention of Santa Clauses at the Blankenship House on Parrott Avenue. "You've got to see it," he said,in the excited voice only little brothers can have.:"Condy Blankenship has more lighted Santas than any place in Adair County. The photo was taken at around 6:30pmCT, Tuesday night of just a part of the Santas. In fact, we plan to return to find out the significance of the Santas lined up like union pickets, outside Blankenship Salvage, 322 Parrott AV, Columbia. If you go, you'll notice one of Mayor Pat Bell's biggest achievements: The changes in the neighborhood since being annexed into the city. It's a very pretty street, which loops off the east side of Campbellsville RD, just north of the bridge.

By Billy Joe Fudge, Retired District Forester
Kentucky Division of Forestry

It indeed "fogged up on a frost" at Old Concord Church on Hwy 704 just East of the intersection with Sparksville Road (Hwy 768 West). The sun was slowly burning away the fog as I photographed an eerie but nonetheless softly, beautiful scene which accompanies this Kentucky Color.

JIM: Middleburg and the Farmers Deposit Bank, 1904-05

By "Jim"

A Sketch of Middleburg (from the Adair County News, June 29, 1904; spellings as found)

A small village of about 400 inhabitants is situated near the source of Green river, on the break between the bluegrass and mountain region of Kentucky. This location has a special geological, psychological and historical value. It has a beautiful and healthful location. It is near the region where the first pioneers immerged into the forest to wrestle their homes from the wild animals and savage indians. Here the inhabitants can breathe the pure and refreshing air from the mountains, drink the health giving draughts of her beautiful springs and receive the inspiration of wild supernatural and historical sceneries, diffusive in all its grand panoramic beauty.

Brent Thompson travel album is inspirational

Von Price writes:
People are always talking about going to Europe and travel abroad. There so many places that are so beautiful right here in America. I have seen all of these places that he talked about, and more. I think the most beautiful place that I have ever seen is the Big Sky Country. The Beautiful Blue Sky just seems to never end. And to travel across Wyoming and Nebraska, where you can look for miles and miles and never see a single soul.

I remember the first time I went to the Grand Canyon, I was just in awe at how massive it was. It certainly is one place that every American should see. As the one of my favorite songs, America the Beautiful. says America is so beautiful and has so many places to see. Why would any one want to go abroad? Other than to just say that they have been. I went to Madrid, Spain on a trip and I was never so glad to get back in the Great United States of America. So many people do not realize that in other Countries you don't havethe Freedom of Speech. We take it for granted. Just wanted to say some great things about our beautiful United States of America! Happy Holidays to all. -Von Price
