The time a teenager was really beating Yank Loy at checkers About: James Yank Loy in front of Jot 'em Down Store photo by his daughter, Donita Hortillosa By Jason Stone I didn't live but a minute by bicycle away from the store. When I was about thirteen or so, feeling my oats because I had reached a point where I could beat my grandpa George at the game, I pedaled on down to Yank's and decided I wanted to play him in a game of checkers. That was my first mistake. For about fifteen minutes afterwards, Yank greeted any customers with "wow, this boy is really beating me at checkers," while he jumped and double-jumped my pieces. I did a pen-and-ink of the store when I was in high school. I need to find it and see how to scan it and send it in. -Jason Stone, Marietta, GA Thanks for sharing the great memories of Sparksville; and yes, we hope you do find the art to share as well. -EW 2010-06-21 19:35:58 | Comments | Printable version

How Change for Life was such a success Two ACES kids, Kaitlyn Grant and Brooklyn Coomer, approached the school's assistant principal with a fund raiser to help the family of a deeply loved Adair County.
