Obituary: Howard Walker, 65, Adair Co., KY native

Mr. Walker was a member of a highly regarded South Adair County family. He was a welder.

Howard Walker age 65 years of Summit, Illinois formerly of the Sparksville Community in Adair County passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Mac Neal Hospital in Berwyn, IL after an illness.

A memorial service will be Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 2pmCT, at the Fudge Cemetery, 847 Independent Ridge RD, Breeding, KY. Visitation will be Friday, June 11, 2010, from 4-9pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY. Cremation will follow.

VBS is June 14-18, 2010, at First Church of Nazarene

Columbia First Church of the Nazarene, 1200 Jamestown ST, Columbia, KY 42728, will be having Vacation Bible School June 14-18, 2010, 6-8pmCT. Children Pre-School through 6th grade are invited to attend. Children are asked to arrive 15 minutes early on Monday evening in order to be registered by the 6pmCT, start time. This year's theme is "Deep Sea Adventure -Exploring the Depths of Jesus' Love." Adair Co., KY, Relay for Life total is $74,195.72 for 2010

This is the updated total for Relay: $74,195.72.

After the total was read Friday night, June 4, 2010, we took in more money for auction items and team money.

Also, we raised $390 for Sarah Irvin Gardner

The purse/cake auction raised $1,850.00. Super Blane & Friends' purse brought the most ($150); A Class Act's cake brought the most for a cake, ($170).

The Columbia-Adair County Economic Development Authority board meets at 8amCT, each 2nd Wednesday, at the Chamber Office, 201 Burkesville ST, Columbia, KY. The meetings are open to the public. The board includes Doug McCammish, chairman, and members Kay Bowman, Barry Corbin, Tony Corbin, Roger Drake, and Jim Hadley, with Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton and Columbia Mayor Pat Bell ex officio members. KSP warns of phone scam

Callers claim to be raising funds for families of fallen troopers. The calls are not authorized by the State Police.

FRANKFORT, KY - Citizens throughout the Commonwealth should be on guard for telephone solicitations requesting donations for the benefit of the Kentucky State Police.

According to Lt. David Jude, commander of the KSP Media Relations Branch, the agency has received numerous reports from individuals throughout the state regarding efforts to raise funds for the families of fallen troopers or to purchase drug dogs for schools.

KSP Post 15 has no fatalities in May, 2010

Total traffic fatalities in 11 counties served by Columbia Post for year is 8, compared to 23 in 2009. Statewide fatalities significantly down, but not as much as Post 15

COLUMBIA, KY - During the month of May, 2010, there were 21 traffic accidents investigated by the State Police working in the Post 15 area in the 11 counties of Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Taylor and Washington.

There were no fatalities during the month of May in the Post 15 area.

Gov. appoints Beth Partin, re-appoints
Susanne Watkins to advisory board


Partin and Watkins will serve on Kentucky Advisory Council for Medical Assistance. Partin is Westlake Regional Hospital nurse practitioner, Terri Susanne Watkins is Russell Springs optometrist

FRANKFORT, KY - Elizabeth "Beth" Partin, Columbia, Ky, a nurse practitioner at Westlake Regional Hospital, has been appointed by Governor Steve Beshear to the Advisory Council for Medical Assistance. She represents the Kentucky Nurses Association. The appointment replaces Kristin V. Paul, whose term has expired. Partin will serve for a term expiring April 15, 2014.

In the same round of appointments, the governor reappointed Russell Springs optometrist Terri Susanne Watkins, of Russell Springs, KY to the same board. She represents the Kentucky Optometric Association. Watkins will serve for a term expiring April 15, 2013.

Gov. Beshear also appointed, in addition to Partin, the following members to the Advisory Council for Medical Assistance:

I don't know when I've been so excited. At first, I was willing to settle for what I had and have it fixed, but when the repairman said, "It is beyond salvaging" I rejoiced to myself, not wanting him to think I placed such importance on material objects.

When he left, I called Guy and acted as if I wished the outcome had been different. "Well, it can't be fixed. I guess I'll just have to get a new one." Sigh, sigh.

COLUMBIA, KY - Trooper John Adams is investigating a collision that occurred Sunday night, June 6, 2010, 8:10pmET, 12 miles North of Springfield at the junction of Chaplin RD and KY 555.

John C. Daley, age 45 of Lexington, KY, was traveling North on Chaplin RD in a 2006 Ford F150 when he failed to observe a stop sign due to glare from the sun.
