Human Rights Listening Tour coming to CU From Commonwealth News Center The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary as a state agency this year, is inviting the public to attend its "Listening Tour,'' in Campbellsville, KY, on Thursday, June 10, from 6:30 to 8:30pmET/5:30-7:30pmCT, at the Campbellsville University Technology Training Center located at 409 Hoskins AV, Campbellsville, KY. The Listening Tour Series began in January to raise Kentuckians' awareness of civil rights and equal opportunity. So far, the tour has held sessions in Cadiz, Mayfield, Richmond, Somerset, Paris, Versailles, Paducah, and Hopkinsville, KY. A tour session is also planned for Tuesday, June 8, in Ashland, Ky. The tour will continue in other regions throughout 2010. The Kentucky Human Rights Commission is the state government agency that enforces the Kentucky Civil Rights Act, which bans discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations and financial transactions. People are protected from discrimination based on their race, gender, disability, color, religion, national origin, family status in housing and age 40 and over in employment. The Commission is producing the "Listening Tour'' to gather information from residents and local officials about civil and human rights. The commission will use the opportunity to share information with the public about the agency's purpose, function, and how people can receive help from the Commission regarding matters of illegal discrimination. The state human rights commission will use the information from the "Listening Tour'' to help improve its services and assist the local human rights commissions located in various Kentucky cities and counties. The event is free and the public is invited to attend. For more information, please contact Juan Pena at the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights, (800) 292-5566.
