Adair County High School Quiz Bowl
Top 10 in the Nation: An amazing feat

Putting what a team of 11th graders from Columbia, KY - Luke Maupin, Ryan Montgomery, Jake Leibeck, and Jaylyn Bailey - into perspective makes the 7th place finish in the nation all the more remarkable.
"No one there expected this rural Kentucky team to finish anywhere near that Top 10, but in this week's blogs and quiz bowl forums on the internet, there is now a lot of buzz about this Adair County team that broke through the ceiling that has been dominated by the nation's top private and specialized academies for years." -COACH BRETT RELIFORD

Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story

Out of 200 teams that earned qualification to the 2010 NAQT High School National Quiz Bowl Championship, Adair County's unexpected push toward the top had many of the nation's "usual suspects" talking. The ACHS quiz bowl/quick recall team finished 7th overall in the tournament after fighting their way through a very stiff Sunday elimination round one match at a time.

Extraordinary Session Yields
Executive Branch Budget and Road Plan

By State Representative Bam Carney

With a budgetary shortfall in excess of $1 billion and the possibility of a state government shutdown looming closer to becoming a reality, my colleagues and I returned to Frankfort for an Extraordinary Session to pass the Commonwealth's executive branch biennial budget and six year road plan.

A stark contrast from past budgets, Kentucky's current two year spending plan contained in House Bill 1, approved by a vote of 86-7, totals $17.1 billion. It is important to note this budget is $1.2 billion less than what was appropriated in the previous biennium.
