Homeplace festival gives participants a taste of country

Farm is rapidly becoming a center of study for Lindsey Wilson College students

The Homeplace on Green River, a local educational farm that's been producing crops for more than 200 years, deserves to be saved, and Nolan "Hot Shot" Gilpin is ready to do his part.

Gilpin and other area farm specialists and artisans, will put their unique skills on display at the Homeplace Farm Festival, October 10 and 11, 2008. During the Festival, the location will be open from 10am to dusk.

The OLD HOMEPLACE FESTIVAL will be held at the farm at KY 55 and Tebbs Bend Road between Columbia and Campbellsville, KY, north of the Green River Bridge in Taylor County. The two day affair will feature farm specialists and artisans who will display work and demonstrate skills.

Attorney General Jack Conway, for Democrats, and Secretary of State Trey Grayson will represent the Republican side

"The Kentucky Heartland Institute on Public Policy is sponsoring a forum on the election featuring distinguished guest speakers Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway and Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson," said John Chowning, vice president for church and external relations and executive assistant to the president at Campbellsville University.

Public asked for their input on "Kentucky's Open Door" test site

New state website has aim of making it easy to see how tax dollars are spent

FRANKFORT, KY: A mockup of Kentucky's first e-Transparency Web site is now online and members of the public are being asked to make comments on its design. "Kentucky's Open Door" Web site has been designed as a one-stop venue where citizens can review how their tax dollars are being spent, as well as obtain other vital information about state-funded programs.

I live out of state but still have a son and property in Columbia. I really enjoy reading the happenings in Columbia and Adair Co. I have enjoyed reading Chris Bennett's stories about the Cumberland River, when he was at the Old Hickory Lock & Dam He was about three mile from where I live in Hendersonville. Keep up the good work and thank you for all you do for Columbia & Adair Co.

Beef herd management shortcourse to be offered

In response to the dramatic rise of input costs of producing and raising beef cattle. The Adair, Green, and Taylor County Cooperative Extension Service will be hosting a Beef Management Shortcourse Title "Managing the Beef Herd During High Production Costs." A total of three sessions will be held at 5:30pmCT each evening on October 9, 16, and 23, 2008, focusing on profitability outlooks for cow-calf and back grounding operations, hay productions costs, USDA Risk Management Program, marketing, alternative winter feeding, and formulating least cost rations. Asbury UMC will celebrate 20-year tenure of pastor Don Watson

Asbury United Methodist Church will celebrate the Rev. Don Watsons 20 years of service at a special service this Sunday.

The service will be at 11amET on Sunday, October 12, at Asbury UMC, 9600 New Columbia Road on the Adair-Taylor county line.

Following the service, a meal will be provided by members of Asbury UMC.

Preliminary statistics* indicate thatelevenpeople died inelevenseparate crashes on Kentucky roadwaysfrom Monday, September 29 through Sunday, October 5, 2008.Six of the fatalities involved motor vehicles andthree of thosevictimswere not wearing seat belts. Motor vehicle crashes occurred inFayette, Floyd, Garrard, Jefferson and Woodford Counties. The suspected use of alcohol was a factor in three of these crashes.

Doctoral dissertation establishes new film subgenre

'Napoleon Dynamite' inspired CU communications professor Jason Garrett to write paper on 'Social Outcast Cinema'

Campbellsville University recently added to its growing number of professors with doctorate degrees, according to Dr. Michael V. Carter, president.

Jason Garrett, assistant professor of mass communication, received his Ph.D. in communications from Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA, in May 2008, after successfully defended his doctoral dissertations in March.

    Big Rig Big League sportswriter; affiliates with Brewers

    Move is temporary; crossing Wisconsin state line is emotional event for die-hard Cubs fan. But unthinkable events of week, good Wisconsin summer sausage, and circumstances dictate he now will, for the moment, root for Milwaukee

    This past week I got a load headed to Milwaukee.

    At first I thought that this was cruel fate as the Milwaukee Brewers are a big rival of the Cubs!

    As I headed up I-94 and crossed the Wisconsin state line I had mixed emotions. Die-hard fans such as I am have a weird superstitions about these kinds of things. I immediately noticed by the chill bumps on my arm that the temperature up North is much different than here at home.
