Passion for wellness pays off for Rotary speaker, Terry Partin

Change in exercise, diet, results in 91 pound weight loss, less need for prescription drugs, and a new found vigor. He now champions wellness with group at his Jones Chapel UMC Church; promotes wellness events such as 2nd Sunday

By Doug McCammish

At a recent Columbia-Adair County Rotary Club meeting at Lindsey Wilson, Terry Partin, who retired not long ago from the Farm Service Agency, shared the story of his new passion for wellness.

Early this year, Terry was invited to go on a "dream" hunting trip in the Rocky Mountains, but he knew that he was not in shape to be climbing mountains. (Actually, as Hunter Durham reminds us often, round is a shape, but maybe not the right one for climbing mountains.)

Guardrail at Pelham Branch, CWB, slows vehicle in crash

Driver taken to WRH in private vehicle following early morning wreck

By Ed Waggener

It seemed a miracle when 19 year old Patrick Loy, of Hutchison Loy Road, Columbia, was able to walk away from a crash through the SW Pelham Branch Road guardrail at the road's interersection with the soon to be opened Columbia Western Bypass.

Columbia Police Officer Kevin Atwood, who responded to the 911 call at around 6:30am, this morning, Sunday, October 5, 2008, thinks that the guardrail, the fact that Loy was belted, and the strength of the 1997 Ford F-150 4WD vehicle may have been the major factors which saved the driver from greater injury.
