Obituary: Herman Jessee, 93

Mr. Jessee was the head of a large, respected Metcalfe County family. He leaves 39 living descendants. He was a farmer and a member of the Mosby Ridge Presbyterian Church

I think that sending Christmas boxes to the military folks is such a kind and thoughtful thing to do! I am very happy to report that Cpl. Kris Knight will not need one - he is scheduled to return to Camp Lejeune, NC. at the end of October!

I can give a few ideas for goody box contents based on what Kris and the others in his group seemed to enjoy.

ACES students to receive dental screenings

Adair Elementary School 6th Grade Students will receive a dental screening and cleaning service on October 2, 2008. A DMD will take a look at the child's teeth, do a cleaning and provide parents with a report of her findings. This simple process will be pain free for the child and we will make sure that the child is comfortable with the entire process.

Group wants information to mail Christmas boxes to servicemen

A local group has decided to make up Christmas boxes to be sent to the men whoses names are listed on ColumbiaMagazine.com.

They are asking if there are any restrictions as to what can be sent, And, they ask, "What are some of the things that are appropriate to be sent; how long prior to Christmas should these be sent, etc?."

Driver arrested, jailed, after Sunday Cedar Grove RD crash

KSP Post 15, Columbia, KY, POLICE REPORTS

The driver who lost control of her car and hit a tree on Cedar Grove Road was treated and released at Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia, KY, but was arrested on several charges and was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail following the incident.

Jamie Lynn Blankenship, 23, Greensburg, KY, the driver was operating a 1985 Toyota Corolla on Cedar Grove Road, six miles north of Columbia, KY, Sunday, at 2:35pmCT, when the accident occurred. She was not belted at the time of the accident.

CYCLING: LWC hosts GABRAKY bikers on their ride across KY

Riders in LWC sponsored Grand Autumn Bicycle Ride Across Kentucky have brunch in Cranmer Dining Center, tour Begley Chapel on way to Dale Hollow Lake

More than two dozen bicyclists rolled through Adair County on Sunday morning. Riders who took part in the fifth-annual Grand Autumn Bicycle Ride Across Kentucky stopped at Lindsey Wilson College for brunch on Sunday morning before heading to their final destination at Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park.

Obituary: Larry Cornell, 86, WWII Army veteran

COLUMBIAMAGAZINE.COM OBITUARIES

Mr. Cornell, a native of Otego, NY, was a valued member of the Breeding Community. His marriage had lasted 67 years. Mr. Cornell was retired from Bendix Corporation in NY, and had been past master of the Otego, NY Masonic Lodge. He was active in the Odd Fellows. He was a member of the Otego Methodist church and attended Chestnut Grove Community Church.

Lawrence "Larry" Vernor Cornell, 86, 166 Chestnut Grove Road, Columbia, KY, the Breeding Community, formerly of Otego, NY, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2008, at 7:56pm, at the Summit Manor Rehab Center in Columbia, KY.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 30, at 5:30pm at Chestnut Grove Community Church, Breeding, KY. Visitation will begin at 5:00pmCT on Tuesday evening at the church. The family has chosen cremation with interment at a later date in the Otego Evergreen Cemetery in Otego, NY. Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The Adair County band has been certainly one of the great prides of Adair County for many. many years. Mr. Allen is to be congratulated for such fine leadership and vision. Outstanding from year to year. Exceptional record. I miss being there to see them perform since my work international, but look forward to seeing them when I retire.

    Recycling trailer at Wal-Mart parking lot
    The new Adair County Recycling Center's recycling trailer will be introduced to the community when it is placed in the Wal-Mart parking lot on Friday, Saturday, and Monday, September 26, 27, and 29, 2008. The recycling tailer is for those of you who cannot go to the Adair County Recycling Center during regular recycling hours. Items which will be accepted are paper, glass, cardboard, and plastic.
