Louisville gets$ 5 million in bike, pedestrian projects

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Gov. Steve Beshear and Mayor Jerry Abramson today announced nearly $5 million in grants for bicycle and pedestrian improvements that will improve access and increase safety along Louisville's roads and streets.

The investment will add miles of bike ways and sidewalks in Louisville, which will benefit an increasing number of people who are commuting to work and running errands without cars.

Would you believe that the Adair County Garden Club is now making fish? Oh, not those old smelly kind that your Grandfather liked to catch but the kind that are at home in your garden. These fancy flying fish are made from recycled 2 liter soda bottles and Lila Loy, master fish crafter and gardener will be teaching her craft on Thursday October 16, 2008, at 1:00pmCT, at the Adair County Extension Office, 409 Fairground Street, Columbia. This is a free class. Please bring an empty, clean 2 litter bottle with the lable and glue removed. The Garden Club will provide all the necessary supplies and tools. Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton has signed an Executive Order declaring a ban on open burning in Adair County, effective at 12:00noonCT, Friday, September 26, 2008:

Executive Order
No person shall light or maintain an open fire at any location in Adair County while this ban is in effect, starting at 12noonCT, Friday, September 26, 2008. Any person violating this ban shall be subject to fines and penalties.

This ban shall remain in effect until further notice.

Micah Spicer was youngest member of Kentucky Delegation. Clinton backer voted for Hillary at convention, but now supports Obama. Sophomore is youth pastor at New Covenant Church in Campbellsville.

Historic. Amazing. That's how Micah Spicer described his experience at the recent 2008 Democratic National Convention. Spicer, 19, of Wingo, KY, was the youngest delegate from Kentucky and is a sophomore at Campbellsville University.

"It's very special to me to be the youngest delegate," said Spicer. "It's vital that today's young people get involved in the political process."

Recycling trailer at Wal-Mart parking lot
The new Adair County Recycling Center's recycling trailer will be introduced to the community when it is placed in the Wal-Mart parking lot on Friday, Saturday, and Monday, September 26, 27, and 29, 2008. The recycling tailer is for those of you who cannot go to the Adair County Recycling Center during regular recycling hours. Items which will be accepted are paper, glass, cardboard, and plastic.
