KSP initiates investigation in Russell severe burns case

POLICE REPORTS

UPDATE at 2:32pmCT, Tuesday, September 2, 2008: The 5-year-old juvenile is in critical but stable condition with 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his chest and face. He also inhaled the flames causing some internal injury. He was playing with other juveniles in the mobile home park. Investigation revealed that the juveniles were playing with a liquid accelerant in a water bottle and that they were pouring it out and setting it on fire. The accelerant was poured into a container that one of the juveniles was holding. When lit, the container caught fire scaring the juvenile who then threw the container into the air. The container fell on the five year old victim, causing his injuries. Earlier report follows:

The Kentucky State Police have initiated a non-criminal investigation into the events that led to a 5 year old juvenile sustaining severe burns while playing with other juveniles in the Springs Mobile Home Park in Russell Springs on August 31, 2008. The juvenile was transported to Russell County Hospital and later flown to University of Kentucky Children's Hospital.

The Homeplace: Bringing Communities and Education Together

By Jeremy A. McCasland

A local farm, known as Homeplace, located between Columbia and Campbellsville is doing just this, "Bringing Communities and Education Together."

Homeplace is a non-profit 220 plus acre historic farm. Its board is made up of members of both Taylor and Adair Counties whose goal is to preserve the history and restore the property to its previous glory.

Not resting on the mere fact that Homeplace is one of Kentucky's great historical treasures the board has started to work with Lindsey Wilson College. This is a win-win situation. The students are able to conduct research and hands on projects that will only enhance their education while assisting Homeplace.

One group of Lindsey Wilson College students led by Professor Dan Koger will be helping with publicizing their festival coming October 10-11, 2008.

The COF weighs in on question of leaf turning time

Written in response to: What is average time for leaves to change here?

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Having waited all day for an erudite response to Charles' question I decided to put my hand to the problem. After reviewing the scientificul digests (Ole Farmers Almanac), talking to the professors at KU (Baker's campus of Knifley University) and observing the signs--I can confidently, unequivocally confirm that the leaves in this part of the country change color at the identical time that they start to lose their green.

Now I know I'm going out on a limb here since I no longer have my mentor to confer with. If'n one was to keep track of the seasonal rainfall, dry spells twixt rains, average daily temperatures, highs and lows and spells in between and monitor the annual change of colors over a long time span--I don't see how enny rational person could come to any other confusion!
