Cumberland Countian named Duo County scholar at LWC

Christian Tyler Parris will major in pre-engineering

A member of the Cumberland County High School Class of 2008 has been named a DuoCounty Telecom Scholar at Lindsey Wilson College. Christian Tyler Parrish of Burkesville has received the Duo County scholarship at Lindsey Wilson. He will be a freshman this fall at the liberal arts college.

Parrish plans to major in pre-engineering at Lindsey Wilson with the goal of becoming a civil engineer. And he will have a good place to start his career as Parrish will study in Lindsey Wilson's Jim & Helen Fugitte Science Center. The 42,000-square-foot Fugitte Science Center is considered to be one of the best science centers among Kentucky's private colleges and universities.

Brittany Hall always wanted to be a Southern Belle. She got her wish, and more, as she represented Campbellsville University at this year's Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival (KMLF) where she was named Miss Congeniality.

Hall, a senior from Lawrenceburg, KY, represented CU when the Valentine Queen winner, Miranda Meeks of Princeton, KY, was unable to attend. Hall was second runner-up in the Valentine Pageant at CU.>

18 Adair students on the SCC Spring 2008 Dean's List

Eighteen (14) students from Adair County earned a place on the Somerset Community College Dean's List for the Spring 2008 SemesterThe enrollment at SCC is more than 7,000 students. Only 582 SCC students or slightly more than eight percent (8%) made the SCC Spring 2008 Dean's List.The Adair County students are listed below by town:

Adair Sheriff investigating robbery in Montpelier area

On Tuesday, June 24, 2008, the Adair County Sheriff's department responded to a call of a robbery on KY 92 in the Montpelier Community in Southeast Adair County near the Russell County line.

An older white male 40-60 years old, tall, with gray hair. knocked at the door and made his way inside the home, the victim said.

The perpetrator pretended to be doing some type of measuring, while another perpetrator (or perpetrators) stole money from the home.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Adair County Sheriff Department (270) 384 2776.

The case is being investigated by Deputy Tracy McCarol. Adair County Sheriff Curry remind people not to answer the door to anyone not known to them.

P&Z Board will consider to annexation requests

PUBLIC NOTICES

The City of Columbia Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a Public Hearing on July 10, 2008, at 6:00pmCT in City Hall, 116 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, to consider the following:
  1. Annexation and map amendment for property located at 100 Murray Lane consisting of 2 lots (PVA Map #051E-012 & PVA Map #51E-013). These lots containing approximately 116 m/l acres, are proposed to be annexed by the City of Columbia and zoned R-1A Single Family Residential. (Property owners Patrick & Lyda Wilson have requested this annexation)

  2. Annexation and map amendment for property located at 1764 Campbellsville Road consisting of 1 lot (PVA Map #051-019.002). This lot containing approximately .49 acres m/l is proposed to be annexed by City of Columbia and zoned as C-2 Highway Oriented Commercial. (Property owner Grider Commercial Rentals. CU theater department to hold auditions for fall 2008 play

Auditions will be August 25 and 26, 2008 for the Campbellsville University fall play titled "43 Plays For 43 Presidents.

The auditions will be from 8:00pmET until 10:00pmET in the University Theater in the Alumni Building.

Five parts are available for males or females. Those auditioning should come with a monologue prepared.

Helmets for Kids is ongoing program

Helmets still available. Recipients reminded that condition of gift is agreement that they always wear a helmet when riding an ATV

The Helmets for Kids program is ongoing. This year we have given 46 ATV helmets to Adair County children. In 2007 we gave a total of 156 helmets.
