Cumberland Countian named Duo County scholar at LWC Christian Tyler Parris will major in pre-engineering By Duane Bonifer, LWC Public Affairs Director A member of the Cumberland County High School Class of 2008 has been named a DuoCounty Telecom Scholar at Lindsey Wilson College. Christian Tyler Parrish of Burkesville has received the Duo County scholarship at Lindsey Wilson. He will be a freshman this fall at the liberal arts college. Parrish plans to major in pre-engineering at Lindsey Wilson with the goal of becoming a civil engineer. And he will have a good place to start his career as Parrish will study in Lindsey Wilson's Jim & Helen Fugitte Science Center. The 42,000-square-foot Fugitte Science Center is considered to be one of the best science centers among Kentucky's private colleges and universities. DuoCounty Telecom founded the scholarship program for one year for a first-time, full-time freshman to attend Lindsey Wilson from DuoCounty's service area, which includes parts of Adair, Casey, Cumberland and Russell counties. "This scholarship from DuoCounty means a lot to me because it will make my stay at Lindsey Wilson a lot more comfortable," said Parrish, the son of Susan Brown and Greg Parrish. "It's great to have my first year of college covered financially." And DuoCounty officials say they are excited about supporting the scholarship program at Lindsey Wilson. "We are pleased to be able to help a good student like Tyler attend a wonderful college like Lindsey Wilson," said DuoCounty Executive Vice President/Chief Executive Officer Bill Magruder. "Supporting our community and local students to strive for higher education is very important." At Cumberland High School, Parrish was a member of Future Farmers of American and Future Business Leaders of America. This story was posted on 2008-06-26 18:27:41
