Letterboxing is an intriguing "treasure hunt" that takes place outside.

Families will visit designated areas in Adair County. When you reach a destination, follow the clues to see if you can find the hidden letterbox.

Jim and Carolyn Gifford of Bowling Green, KY, are proud to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of her daughter, Lindsay Carole Harper to Andrew Jordan Bragg, son of Darrel and Becky Bragg of Bowling Green.

Lindsay is also the daughter of the late Dr. Randall L. Harper, Jr. She is the granddaughter of Maynard and Doris Pile of Elizabethtown, Randall and Betty Harper of Scottsville, and the step-granddaughter of Jerry and Dee Gifford of Scottsville.

Largest stream erosion project in ACRD history underway

Adair County Judge Ann Melton has announced that the Adair County Road Department (ACRD) began construction of a 300 ft. long, 12 ft. high, retaining wall on the south bank of Crocus Creek at Inroad on Monday, June 16, 2008.

"We're happy to get the project underway," she said. "It is very important to the safety of travelers along the road. We're aiming toward a completion date before school starts," she said.

The project is intended to shore up the Melson Ridge Road from Inroad to Cundiff, Melson Ridge, in Magistrate Sammy Baker's Third District of Adair County.

Watch out world: Bryleigh Addison Wheet makes grand entrance

Chad and Courtney Wheet would like to announce the birth of their first child, Bryleigh Addison. She made her grand entrance into our lives on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at 9:23pm. She weighed eight pounds seven and three quarters ounce and was twenty inches long. Grandparents are Warren and Cindy Cox of Campbellsville, Joe Wheet, Debbie and Dennis Selby, of Columbia. Mayor Bell to host groundbreaking for Greenhills project

Mayor Patrick R. Bell and the City of Columbia invites the public to celebrate the start of a $1 million sewer project that will serve 85 homes in the Green Hills Subdivision. Septic systems don't work well in the area's soil, so sewer service will bring peace of mind for homeowners and cleaner groundwater for the entire community.

On Monday, June 23, 2008 Mayor Pat Bell will host a groundbreaking ceremony at 10amCT. Participants will include representatives of the agencies that contributed funding to the project: Eastern Kentucky PRIDE and the Appalachian Regional Commission.

Benefit for Nokes family is June 20, 2008 at VFW Hall

BENEFITS & FUNDRAISERS

There will be a benefit fundraiser for Susan and Brandon Nokes on Friday, June 20, 2008, at 7:00pmCT at the VFW Hall in Columbia, KY, located on Fairground St. (Hwy. 206). They lost their home to a fire on May 24. Food, baked goods, and corn toss games will be ready at 7:00pmCT. The Wichitaw band will play from 8:00pm-12:00pmCT. Swimming lessons will be offered starting June 23, 2008

The Columbia City Pool will be offering swimming lessons during the week of June 23 to June 27, 2008, from 5:30pmCT to 6:30pmCT nightly. The cost for the lessons will be $35.00 for the week or $8.00 a day if you pay daily.

To sign up for swimming lessons call the Columbia City Pool at (270) 384-1704 during pool hours which are Monday-Saturday from Noon to 5:00pmCT and Sunday from 1:00pm to 5:00pmCT. If you don't get a chance to call, feel free to stop by on Monday at 5:30pmCT. -GREG THOMAS
