The Life of Young Larry Smith: Corner Drugs chapter

2008-05-28 - Downtown Greensburg, KY - Photo From the collection of Larry Smith, boy radio announcer.
LARRY SMITH, news anchor at the WAVE, WHVE FM 92.7 sent this grand old photo of the landmark Corner Drugs building in historic downtown Greensburg, KY. He writes, "Here's a photo of theold Corner Drug Store in Greensburg. The Drug Store is no longer, but the building houses a flower shop, The Greensburg Record Herald, and Nancy Stearman's CPA office. Again this photo reminds us of days gone by." Just down the street on the left was the Green County Courthouse, a path to which was taught to every little Green County child in the Cold War, because it was the only structure with a bomb shelter in the county. "We were to go there any times the Russians dropped a bomb on us," Larry Smith recalled.

Feedback: Congratulations, Toon Burton

PHOTOCongratulations, Toon!

Remember when we dragged raced, doing what was then a cool thing to do, or so we thought.

I remember you didn't want to drag race with me, but I kept bugging you to drag race, with me in my old Chevy.

Best I remember, you won. That ended my career in drag racing!

Good to see you're still having fun and winning,
s/Alice Faye Bernard Wheeler

Feedback: Memories of Corner Drug Store, Greensburg, KY

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

Love the photo. The Corner Drug Store was a favorite after school hang out for many Green County kids, myself included. There were booths in the back with a juke box and they served the best cherry Cokes, chocolate sundaes, milk shakes and tuna sandwiches your could find anyplace.
