Critter Camp for CWC, JAIS K-5 starts June 30, 2008

CWC Camp Casey Director

The Family Resource Center and 21st CCLC Camp Casey will be having Critter Camp this summer. It will begin June 30th through July 24th. We will meet every Monday through Thursday from 9 to 12 at the CWC gym. This camp is open to students who attend K-5 grades at CWC and JAIS.

We have a couple of local field trips planned during this time. In addition, we will have several special guests come bring their programs to the school to help us all learn more about bugs and their environments.

This group toured the alternative energy center being developed. Sgt. Major Charles Todd, 90, dies in Mt. Pleasant, SC

OBITUARIES

Sgt. Major Charles Todd was a member of a distinguished Adair County family. He was a veteran of World War II and had been had managed a retirement complex after military retirement. He will be accorded military honors by Columbia VFW Post 6097

Sgt. Major Charles Lafon Todd, US Army, Retired, age 90 years ofMt. Pleasant, South Carolina, formerly of the Cane Valley Community in Adair County, KY passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the East Cooper Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

The funeral service is Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 11:00am at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY.

VBS at Charity Baptist is June 11, 12, 13, 2008

Charity Baptist Church will be having Vacation Bible School, June 11, 12, and 13. We will begin each night at 6:30pmCT and dismiss each night at 8:00pmCT. On the final night, Friday, June 13 we will conclude our VBS with a hotdog and marshmellow roast. Classes for all ages will be available. Please come join us. Campbellsville University recognized corporate sponsors and volunteers who help to keep Clay Hill Memorial Forest (CHMF) growing with a donor appreciation event recently.

Special guests were Jan Rose Coleman, Shiela Newcomb and Jacki Bennett representing management of E.ON U.S. which has provided for the new alternative energy center and teacher sponsorship.

Vacation Bible School at CBC, June 2-5, 2008

Columbia Baptist Church Vacation Bible School will be held Monday through Thursday, June 2-5 from 5:30pm to 8:30pmCT. This year there will be classes for all ages, including adults. Hero Day celebrates ACMS Accelerated Reader milestone

The Adair County Middle School celebrated reaching 20,000 Accelerated Reader Points on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, by having a Hero Day.

For the day, students and faculty dressed up in costumes as someone they knew or admired. It turned out well with several students and faculty participating.

Ole Met, Marion, Pulaski Co's receive GOLD Recreational Trails $$

Money can be used for bicycling, hiking, in-line skating, horseback riding

Nearby Metcalfe, Marion, and Pulaski Counties were three of 25 communities statewide to receive big Governor's Office for Local Development (GOLD) and the Recreational Advisory Board grants for recreational trails, Governor Steve Beshear announced. grants for a total allocation of $1,231,844.

Metcalfe County received an RTP grant of $16,000 for the Branstetter Park Recreational Trail project, at the Crossroads near Summer Shade. The applicant was the Metcalfe County Fiscal Court.

The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission in Marion County received an RTP grant of $100,000 for the Cecil L. Gorley Naturalist Trail Rehab/Expansion project.

The Pulaski County Fiscal Court applied for an RTP grant and was awarded $49,945, for their projects at the Pulaski Park, Shopville Park, and White Lily Park Trail.

3 ACHS students place high in KY Student Tech competition

Several ACHS students competed at the annual Student Technology Leadership Program State Championship that was held May 6, 2008, in Lexington. Two students, Scotty Neat and Lauren Goodin, competed in the Help Desk Panel event and received Second Place.

Also recognized at the State Championship was Senior Kyle Loy. Kyle has served as Engineer for Kentucky STLP for three years. Congratulations to Scotty, Lauren, and Kyle for these achievements! -CHAD PARNELL

It is so helpful to us that don't live in Adair County to stay in tune with things there. It has to be the most up to date website that I have ever seen.
