Sgt. Major Charles Todd, 90, dies in Mt. Pleasant, SC

OBITUARIES

Sgt. Major Charles Todd was a member of a distinguished Adair County family. He was a veteran of World War II and had been had managed a retirement complex after military retirement. He will be accorded military honors by Columbia VFW Post 6097

Sgt. Major Charles Lafon Todd, US Army, Retired, age 90 years ofMt. Pleasant, South Carolina, formerly of the Cane Valley Community in Adair County, KY passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the East Cooper Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

The funeral service is Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 11:00am at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY.


He was born May 6, 1918 the son of the late Rollin Hurt Todd and Mary Sublett Todd.

He served 33 years with the US Army and was a veteran ofWorld War II. After his retirement as a Sgt. Major with the US Army, hemanaged an apartment complex in Winter Park, FL for 35 years.He is survived by his wife, Mary Richard Owens Todd, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and the following:
  • Two daughters: Paula A. King and her husband Ronald, Summerville, SC; and Natalie Todd Petry and her husband Robert, Houston, TX

  • One son: Charles R. Todd and wife Margaret of Hillsboro, NJ

  • Six grandchildren: Lori Baete, Dana Todd, Rebecca Todd, Amy Fox,Tiffany Murphy and Megan Todd

  • And by nine great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by two sons, Allen D. Todd and Dr. Gerald M. Todd; by two brothers, George Todd and James Todd; and by two sisters, Alva Todd and Nancy Todd Easterly.

Interment will be in the Cane Valley Cemetery with military honors by VFW Post 6097.

The family request visiting after 6:00pmCT, Friday, May 16, 2008, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY.
