Skywarn weather class is tomorrow night, Mon. Mar. 24, 2008

EVENTS

There will be a free Skywarn weather class in the basement of the Adair County Courthouse Annex Greg Thomas, Adair County Emergency Management Director tomorrow night.

The class will be held Monday, March 24, 2008, at 6:00pmCT.

The class will last approximately 2-3 hours and will teach participants what to look for in the weather and clouds to tell when a storm could be brewing.

The instructor will be Joe Sullivan with the National Weather Service. It is free to all emergency services and citizens. Chris Allen of WBKO Tv, 13, Bowling Green, KY, will also be here.

There is no charge to anyone for this class.

Candidates for 51st House District and other candidates are invited to attend.

GIGO Diary, for 2008-03-22: Easter is time for new beginning

Barbara Armitage has been under the weather a bit since Friday, and that's the reason for the one day hiatus in her diary. But for March 22, she forced herself to write a column in time for Easter day, with her message that Easter is a good time to think about renewal. All day today I have been thinking about what I should write and now that I have actually forced myself to sit down at the computer all I can thank of is going back to bed.

    This quotation is the conclusion of what is perhaps the most famous speech in Native American History. Given on October 5, 1877, Chief Joseph was speaking to the other chiefs of the Nez Perce tribes. Winter was coming. He realized the hopelessness of their situation.

    U. S. Generals Howard, Sturgis, and Miles had pursued more than 750 men, women, and children for 1170 miles as the Native Americans tried to escape to Canada to find what they saw as their last hope for peace -- joining their Crow allies on the Canadian Plains.

    Easter is celebrated in many different ways around the world

    Have you ever wondered how Easter is celebrated in different countries?

    Campbellsville University students, faculty and staff learned about Easter in Kenya, Brazil, Nigeria, Korea, and in New York in the United States at chapel March 19 during a Holy Week Service.

    Dr. Japheth Jaoka, assistant professor of social work who is from Kenya, said Easter is a time of joy; however, it is also a time of sadness.
