Reader gets answer: ARC recycles small batteries now!

To GIGO, c/o ColumbiaMagazine.com

When will the county start taking batteries other than those that are for cars? I have a very large collection of household (toys, cameras, flashlights and smoke detector) batteries that I would love to do something with other than sending them to a landfill. I will continue to hold onto them and may send them up to Indiana where they do recycle small batteries.

s/Sue Fitch

ANSWER: The Adair County Recycle Center accepts household batteries right now. You can recycle A, AA, AAA, C, and D cell batteries that are in toys, cameras, flashlight etc at the Adair County Recycle Center, 62 ServiceRoad. Automotive batteries are recycled when you purchase a replacementbattery. You must turn in the old battery when you buy the new one orpay a penalty. Thanks for recycling. -BARBARA ARMITAGE
