The winter storm began serious pounding at 9 p.m. on our metal porch roof in downtown Columbia, long hours after the grandsons reported a hearty snow in Shelbyville, KY

It seemed that this is the best way to have a winter storm, after all the family is safely home and snug by the fire, listening and watching as Mother Nature has a fine time outside, waiting to throw snowballs if it sticks to the ground.

Cathy Moss sent this beautiful photo of Irene Dial with this message: "My mother-in-law, Irene Dial passed away this morning, Friday, March 7, 2008, at home surrounded by her family after a short battle with cancer. She spent many years operating a family care home, as well as volunteering her time at Summit Manor. She loved being with her grandchildren, driving them around in her little grey bug.She will be missed." Grissom-Martin Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Visitation is Saturday, March 8, 2008, after 6:00pmCT. The funeral will be Monday, March 10, 2008, at 11:00amCT

CU Chorale students from Green and Casey in group heading to Italy

Owner warns of forged Central KY Window & Door checks

Five forged checks cashed at United Citizens Bank on Jamestown Street today; attempt to cash more at UCB Campbellsville Road branch thwarted in middle of caper there. Gang may attempt to cash other forgeries using Central Window & Door instruments apparently taken in a burglary last night or early this morning. Owner Dicky Walker wants businesses be aware the gang is operating in the area and exercise greater diligence. CPD investigating the case

Forged Central Kentucky Window & Door five checks totaling several thousand dollars were cashed this afternoon at the United Citizens Bank main office on Jamestown Street in Columbia, KY, by a gang of thieves believed to be of Mexican origin, according to Dicky Walker, owner of Central Kentucky Window & Door, 1160 Russell Road in Columbia.

Buzz Cason, well-known Nashville author, songwriter, publisher and creative writer's group director, will be visiting Campbellsville University on Wednesday, March 19, presenting two seminars which are free and open to the public.

Cason is among the founding members of The Casuals, Nashville's first rock and roll band.

York speaks on successful Christian living at CU chapel

Identity, responsibility, priority and difficulty are key issues that will determine if you live a successful life with Christ, said Dr. Hershael York, senior pastor at Buck Run Baptist Church of Frankfort, KY, as he spoke on these four issues at Campbellsville Universitys chapel Wednesday.

York, former president of the Kentucky Baptist Convention, referred to Hebrews 11:24-25 in which he said these few verses sum up the entire life of Moses.

Clergy families practice Sabbath in UMC Columbia District

"We are not just being a religion, we are being a church." Dr. Charles W. Brockwell; featured speaker for the Sabbath Retreat, said.

The Sabbath Retreat was a time of worship, fellowship, and renewal of "Living the Methodist Way" which was the overall theme for the event. All seventy-six pastors of the Columbia district churches were invited to participate in this event which was held February 24, 2008, on the Lindsey Wilson College campus.

GIGO Diary of a Recycler: Everyday we are going to follow my garbage to see just how close I can come to eliminating my contribution the landfills in America Today is Thursday March 6, 2008. Diary entry posted 2008-03-07.

This is the only time of the year that I am willing to go to the mailbox normally thats Waynes job but its catalog time.

Ive had all winter to look at empty gardens. By March Im pretty much living in a fantasy world fed by a never ending supply of full color gardening catalogs.

Sawyers Tragedy:Bodies of abducted wife, fugitive husband found

POLICE REPORTS

(March 7, 2008: 5:36amCT) - At approximately 2356 hours (four minutes before midnight) on March 6, 2008, officers from the Kentucky State Police Special Response Team located the bodies of a male and female in the vicinity of Wells Bottom Road in Clinton County where Troopers were shot at earlier in the day with one KSP Detective being injured.

At approximately 12:30am this morning, March 7, 2008, the Clinton County Coroner identified the bodies of Teresa A. Sawyers, age 43, of Albany, and her ex-husband, Terry Sawyers, age 49, also of Albany.

The investigation is continuing at this time and more details will be released as they become available, Kentucky State Police say.

  • LWC students from Romania visit Glens Fork farm

    Lindsey Wilson Freshman Eugen Coman and sophomore Anca Verona were guests of George Kolbenschlag at his farm on Union Chapel Road on Saturday, March 1, 2008, to take advantage of the a very spring-like day.

    Several newborn calves, the progeny of cattle owned by Mark and Mary Dykes, gave occasion to some keepsake photos to send back to family and friends in Romania.
