Obituary: Irene Dial, 62, Columbia caregiver

Mrs. Dial was a member of a very large, respected Columbia family. She took special interest in her grandchildren and warmed others with her good humor, mischievous smile, and caring ways. Mrs. Dial was the operator of a family care center and volunteered caregiving services. She will be greatly missed

Irene Dial, 62, of 576 Parrott Avenue, Columbia, KY, died Friday, March 7, 2008, at 6:55amCT, at her home, after an illness.

The funeral service will be Monday, March 10, 2008, at 11:00amCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Raymond and Bro. Raymond Atwood officiating.



She was a daughter of the late Harrison and Mary Franklin Crawhorn and a family care home operator for 34 years.

She often volunteered her time at Summit Manor in Columbia. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and driving them around in her little grey Volkswagen.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Dial, Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • Two sons: Harrison and his wife Shirley Moss; and Reed and his wife Cathy Moss, all of Columbia, KY

  • Two daughters: Mary Alice Whittle, Covington, KY; and Clara and her husband Rodney Maggard, Columbia, KY

  • Two sisters: Nannie Carter, Campbellsville, KY; and Frances Jones, Hoopeston, IL

  • Three brothers: Charles Crawhorn, Russell Springs, KY; Harrison Wheeler, Hoopeston, IL; and Marvin Franklin, Burkesville, KY

  • Seven grandchildren: Jordan and Keisha Moss, Matthew Moss, Shelby Maggard, and Kenny, Jessica, and Eric Whittle

  • And several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends
She was preceded in death by a son, Leland Pelston; a grandson, Joshua Reed Moss; by eight sisters, Lizzie Bell, Gladys Mann, Jimmy Dial, Daisy Burger; Callie, Linzie, Maryida, and Fay Crawhorn; and eight brothers, Frank, Clyde, Finis,William, Albert, Marion, Ray, and Arvis Crawhorn.

Burial will be in the Columbia Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6:00pmCT, Saturday, March 8, 2008.

Cathy Moss sent this beautiful photo of Irene Dial with this message: "My mother-in-law, Irene Dial passed away this morning, Friday, March 7, 2008, at home surrounded by her family after a short battle with cancer. She spent many years operating a family care home, as well as volunteering her time at Summit Manor. She loved being with her grandchildren, driving them around in her little grey bug.She will be missed." Grissom-Martin Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Visitation is Saturday, March 8, 2008, after 6:00pmCT. The funeral will be Monday, March 10, 2008, at 11:00amCT
