Scenic Adair County: Columbian Theater sign

2008-03-05 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo Pen.
A MOST MEMORABLE SIGN IN MEMORABLE OLD COLUMBIA, KY: "One of the great downtown, single-screen theaters from an entirely different era (built in 1947, it has one of the largest screens in southern Kentucky. They're showing Rambo and Bucket List this week. I saw Superman in this theater (in 1977) and later Fargo (somewhere near 1997). The colored strips light in sequence, and just get through all 6 in 1/4 second." -PEN

Read Across Adair County turnout: Awesome!

    By Ellen Zornes

Such a large gathering for the 2008 "Read Across Adair County" was awesome...especially for seven years in a row.

I had estimated the crowd at over 800. Duane Bonifer thought there were more than 1,000. Either way, the March 3, 2008, event at Adair County Elementary School was impressive.

GIGO Diary, for 2008-04-04: Recycling secret is to start small

Adair County is getting serious about recycling, and the community most ardent citizen recycler is the author of this March daily column. She's made recycling simple and easy at her farm Tucker's Station, on Bull Run Road. Today, recycling for her is a habit, a habit that is making Tucker's Station even more of a showplace than it was when she bought it. She is also doing her part for her adopted Adair County. Today's message: Start. Start small, but start.

    By Barbara Armitage

    Today's Diary is Tuesday March 4, 2008. Posted 2008/03/05

GIGO: Diary of a Recycler: Everyday we are going to follow my garbage to see just how close I can come to eliminating my contribution the landfills in America

"What do I do with this?" Don't let the fear of the unknown stop you from recycling.

KENTUCKY TREES #1: We all live in the forest

    By Billy Joe Fudge

Yes, as strange as it may seem, we all live in the forest. Whether we live in the shade of the trees or in the middle of a grain farm, we still live in the forest.

Every forest has openings whether created by nature or by man. Some of these openings are large and some are small. No matter the size of the opening it will always be a part of a forest system.

We as a people probably know more about Sherwood Forest than we know about the forest in which we live.
