Obituary: Bertha Ruth Rush Pike, 90

Mrs. Pike was a member of Purdy SBC. She was the matriarch of a large family, with 41 descendants

Bertha Ruth Rush Vincent Pike, 90, a resident of Green Hill Manor Nursing Home in Greensburg, KY, formerly of the Purdy community in Adair County, KY, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2006, at 8:15am at the nursing home.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at 1:00pm, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia, Ky, with Bro. Junior Holmes officiating.

The sad word that Walker Smith, the little boy whose life story touched so many Adair Countians, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2006.

Heartfelt prayers are being raised for members of the family.

Of Writers and Their Books" Christmas Violence. Let fiction be our catharsis.

I woke up this Christmas morning with plenty of time to make a couple of pots of coffee to take to our traditional family Christmas breakfast of country ham, biscuits, scrambled eggs, and the memory of Christmas past.

Whilst the coffee was brewing, I decided to finish a novel a customer had suggested that I might like. I did like. It was The Eye of the Tiger by Wilbur Smith. Filled with sunken treasure, gunfights, killer sharks, ruthless villains, and a hero left standing alone amidst the dead bodies of enemies and friends alike this book was a strange choice for the birth morning of the Prince of Peace.
