Many of them attend meetings, hang around the courthouse, organize clean up activities, ride around with magistrates, and a few of them take prisoners out to clean up roadways and dumps. But A. Deer harvest appears to be lower this year The total number of deer harvest in Adair County this year is 883, according to the totals listed at the Department of Fish & Wildlife website. The tally, updated through November 25, 2006, reports that 493 male deer, and 390 female deer, were taken. Welsh E-mail: joey_n_welsh@hotmail.com A DRAMATIC LIFE, BUT ONLY PART OF THE DRAMA WAS ON STAGE On June 16, 1858, over 1,000 delegates convened in Springfield, Illinois for the state convention of the Republican Party. They met to choose a nominee to run for the U.S. Senate, and at about 5:00 that afternoon the delegates selected Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln would go on to lose that senatorial race to Stephen A. Douglas after a series of widely followed debates, though he would defeat Douglas and others for the presidency two years later. At 8:00 on the evening of that convention, though, Lincoln delivered an acceptance speech that electrified the country.
