Traffic is flowing on overpass at KY 61, LBN interchange

2006-10-26 - Burkesville Road, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
Rick Mullins, the foreman for Haydon Bros. Construction, watched the smooth flow of traffic at the new overpass on KY 61 South at the LBN. The changeover took place with a fast-paced, highly coordinated construction, and paving and striping. Drivers should use extra caution in the construction area as they get used to the new traffic patterns.

Adair milestone: Traffic now routed onto new LBN overpass

The target date for the completion of the LBN/KY 61 interchange and new KY 61 to Westwood Road is December 1, 2006, Haydon Bros. contractor says
One photo with this story

By Ed Waggener

ust a few hours ago, a major milestone was met on the KY 61/Louie B. Nunn Interchange. Traffic was re-routed during the day, and drivers now ride the new road from just south of Bob's Auto Body Shop to pass over the LBN Parkway, and re-enter old 61 about one-quarter of a mile south of the overpass, near the Kenneth Wheeler residence and the frontage road which goes to the transfer station.

Mark October 26, 2006, as a red-letter milestone day on the Adair County calendar. Significantly, the new section opened just an hour or so before Governor Ernie Fletcheer was scheduled to arrive in Columbia for an address at the Adair County Elementary School open house.

Letter: A Thank You to Trinity UMC for Trick or Trunk

Ed:

Would you please add a Big Thank You to the Trinity United Methodist Church for their wonderful "TRICK OR TRUNK" they had last night. All the children had a wonderful time (parents did too).

Members of the church opened their Halloween decorated trunks of their vehicle and passed out candy to the children.

What a Treat for the children!

Again, I would like to say Thank You to the Church Members for being so kind!

Kim Slaven & Jessica Kimbler

Democrats meet in Louisville to hear President Bill Clinton

Photos of Adair Countians: Jody with President Clinton. Adair group at event
A standing-room-only crowd met in Louisville Tuesday evening to hear former President Bill Clinton's address to the annual Jefferson-Jackson dinner. The convention center was overflowing and for this one night, his thoughts and words didn't have to be shared with 49 other states, he belonged just to Kentucky. He spoke generally at first, remembering what a good friend Kentucky had been to him even in the early days as a visiting Governor from Arkansas.

As he narrowed his remarks, he spoke to every Democratic leader in the audience by name and thanked them for their help, from Kentucky's US Senator Wendell Ford to Speaker of the House of Representatives Jody Richards, and every name in between.

Fall color. A sure fire pleaser, any time of the year, but spectacular these days: A trip Pete Walker's son Cousin John Walker (some photos accompany today's TODAY) and I took yesterday: Burkesville Road to Edmonton Road. Old Gradyville Rd to Hob's Store and back to Edmonton Road. Edmonton Road to the the Metcalfe County Line. Back to Chestnut Grove Road, downtown Nell, and the new Chestnut Grove Road Twin Bridges. Up Leatherwood Church Road to the Leatherwood Cemetery. To Weed-Sparksville Road and make a decision which may make all the difference. Neither is less travelled. We turned left. There may be no prettier scenes in the world than these roads. If you go, watch for the giant blue heron in Gradyville, which has been flying between the Y formed by Edmonton and Old Gradyville Roads. The reds of sumac, dogwoods and red maples. Sassfras on the Weed Ridge leg is spectacular oranges. And the view from the cemeteries at the intersection of Weed-Sparksville and the Edmonton Road are worth parking, walking to the edge of the cemetery and taking long looks. Scan the horizon for the knob in Pulaski County. Do it reverently. This is sacred ground. This is Adair County. -Ed Waggener

The upcoming political forums provide candidates the opportunity to champion and showcase the least known and seldom fulfilled of a Kentucky State Representatives constitutional duties! In light of the U.S. Supreme Courts "Kelo vs. New London, CT decision" concerning the seizure of private property for commercial development; we are fortunate in Kentucky. Our States Constitution, Section 13 states, nor shall any mans property be taken or applied to public use without the consent of his representatives.
