Gaylon & Phyllis Yarberry, owners Traffic and parking.Watch for School Buses this morning and afternoon. National School Bus Safety Week is now past, but the need to observe safe driving rules continues. Remember, too, that the drive to town has added danger from Boy Deer in Love. Mating season has started. Adair County motorists fare second worst to Taylor County in deer/auto mishaps in the seven-county area. There will be a fairly heavy amount of court traffic and parking today, with 73 cases in District Court; none in Circuit. To check future Adair County Court docket, click on Kentucky Court of Justice or Go to Quick Links. Congratulations: To Corinna Hughes, Corinna Jackson, and the Adair County Fair Board for showing in Boone County Band Festival. To the Adair County Band for victories at Boone County. To Columbians Dr. Phil Aaron, Dr. Julia Goodin, Morris Grubbs, and Paul Peck, for special recognition at the Lindsey Wilson Alumni Banquet during Homecoming weekend. And, of course, to Blake Cowan on getting his first deer. Fall color: Most of the county is ablaze with bright leaves. From the Green County line to Columbia, leaves are at or near the peak of color. Dogwoods look best right now, and, along with sumac, are the brightest reds in the woods. Time is a-awasting, however. In a few spots where rains have been heaviest, many trees are past prime color. A very few are already bare. Worthy of note, in the fall checklist, is that persimmons are plentiful this year; there are great Adair County heritage recipes for everything from persimmon pie to persimmon pudding to persimmon cookies. If you must, googling desired persimmon recipes will find almost anything. Persimmon authority David Burris said the three frost have rendered them sweet, with very little chance of persimmon pucker. Election Countdown: The fall election is just 15 days away, from today. Absentee voters can vote by machine in the County Court Clerk's office, weekdays. You've got until 4:00pm CT, Wednesday, October 27, 2006, to file a declaration of intent as a write-in candidate (not less than 10 days before election).
