Report from GRAWL shares state of the animal shelter

By Dr. Shantila Rexroat

The Green River Animal Welfare League met on it's usual night (the first Tuesday of each month) at 7pm in the basement of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce building. Minutes were read and Director Jeff Thomas gave his report on the animal shelter. Things have been going really well. Adoptions were up this month and we purchased isolation cages with G.R.A.W.L. money and a generous donation from an anonymous benefactor.

The purchase was approximately $7400.00. This is how memberships and donations to the Animal Welfare League will be spent (on things to benefit the comfort and welfare of the animals).

We will be working at Bingo in Metcalfe County in January and could use more volunteers. Please attend a G.R.A.W.L. meeting and sign up for this fund raiser.

G.R.A.W.L. Membership drive / renewal is under way so send those memberships to us at G.R.A.W.L., P.O. Box 370, Columbia, KY 42728. Regular membership is $10.00, but if you would like to pay a $20.00 membership we will send you a nice mug with the G.R.A.W.L. Logo, courtesy of Insurance, etc. in Columbia.

If anyone is interested in helping with our outreach program in the schools we would appreciate your participation at the G.R.A.W.L. meetings. We are getting ready to try and implement educational programs in the schools regarding responsible pet ownership.

So please attend the G.R.A.W.L. meeting, November 7th, 2006. The meeting will take place in the Columbia Chamber of Commerce building at 7:00 pm.
