City Council Special Called Meeting, Oct. 16, 2006 report Council approves 2nd readings for budget amendment, ordinance code. Votes to buy garbage truck for $104,900, less $10,000 trade-in, and to save interest by financing rather than using escrowed money to pay cash By Ed Waggener In a very brief meeting which started two minutes behind schedule, the City of Columbia approved the second readings of two ordinances and accepted the Mayor's recommendation to buy a new garbage truck. The council also approved a financing plan which will save as much as $1,000 per year in interest. Driver injured when vehicle leaves road, hits embankment A single vehicle accident on KY 208, six miles west of Lebanon, KY, resulted in injuries for the driver of a 1998 Chevrolet on Monday morning, October 16, 2006, at 10:35 ET. Jonathon Trailor, 21, Lebanon, KY, was traveling on on KY 208 when he left the roadway in a curve and struck an earth embankment. He was not wearing a seatbelt. Halloween 2006 Events, other news wanted Halloween is celebrated in earnest in Adair County and we want to help Already, a number of Halloween 2006 events have been posted on the CM Events Calendar. Some are school sponsored, some are country store events, and some a sponsored by individuals. If your group's Halloween 2006 Event is not yet listed here, send it now. We've had an emergency call for Frances Salyers, who ordinarily knows everything going on around her store in Gradyville, about the Slate Roc Haunted Holler event on the Granville Sexton Road, just beyond the Adair/Metcalfe County frontier. If anyone knows when the event will be this year, if it is repeated, please tell us or report in to D&F Grocery in Gradyvile and let us know the particulars. We also ask that contributors to anniversaries, birthdays, the directory of churches, and other events send upcoming news in these categories. As well, we'd ask that you check to see that material stays posted. Occasionally there are unintentional deletions or changes, and we depend on contributors to keep the record straight. A scheduled update of the Adair County Veterans List is scheduled for the days leading up to Veterans Day 2006. The Dahlia Lady brightens Lampton Lane with huge fall flowers On Lampton Lane, the garden is populated with plants with known pedigrees, with their own stories, aided by pest fighting garden spiders, and the loving care of Virgie Claycomb. It's a rewarding enterprise, even though the Claycombs have to contend with aphids, deer, and now, a renegade emu. It tromps where it pleases. Just as old families put so much stock in lineage, and horsemen watch bloodlines, Ms. Claycomb, who is now retired after a career as an Adair County Health Department nurse, prefers flowers with a history she can recite.
