WHAS brings cash home to Adair Elementary School

THE WHAS CRUSADE FOR CHILDREN team visited Adair County Elementary School last week to bring a check for over $30,000 to be used for the School's Special Ed technology. All the money raised by the Crusade from Adair County comes home to be used here where it is most needed. "It's an awesome program", says Missy Garmon. The kids were also in a video which will be aired about the Crusade on WHAS TV and other stations. In front are teacher's assistants Mabel Ruth Bryant and Sheila Keltner with arms around Derrick Pickett, Glenna Jones, and holding the check is Jordan Parnell, and to his right are Daylon Murphy, Dalton Pickens, Tiffany Morgan, behind her is Patty Antle, then Brettley Young, Ryan Hadley and teacher Missy Garmon. In the middle row are School Board Member Marsha Walker, Jason Rector with the Breeding Fire Department as well as ACES, RuthAnn Lewis, and Special Education Director, Anita Wethington, standing beside the WHAS representative and Adair County School Superintendent Darrell Treece. Firemen from Adair, Kinfley and Breeding Volunteer Fire Departments were also asked to be in the commercial because so much of the funds come from their hard work.

LETTER: Found dog at Green River Animal Shelter

"This is a special dog. She is obedience trained and well fed"

We have a found dog at the shelter. It is a large shepherd mix, shorthair, brown and black, and female. Her name is Annie and was found by Old Cedar Top Road, located at the edge of the Adair/Green County line. She is around 5 years old. She had an old ID tag on her collar saying she was from Texas. The phone numbers were not in service leading us to believe the owner's have moved here. We really hope to find the owners. County Attorney Jennifer Hutchinson-Corbin to speak at LWC

Adair County Attorney Jennifer Hutchinson-Corbin will be the guest speaker at a Community Luncheon to be held at 12noon, CT, Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at Cranmer Dining Center on the Campus of Lindsey Wilson College.

She will address the problem of domestic violence.

Adair County has sharp monthly drop in unemployment rate

Adair employment close to national level, much better than Kentucky-wide average

Adair County had much better employment picture for August 2006 than in July. Unemployment dropped from 6.0% in July 2006 to 4.8% for August of this year.

The rate was just short of the national average of 4.6%, and much better than Kentucky 5.5% rate for August.

LWC hosts Midwest Collegiate Cycling Conference; wins meet

Lindsey Wilson College hosted the Midwestern Collegiate Cycling Conference (MWCCC) races Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17, 2006.

Cyclists from over 10 state and private colleges competed in cross country, short track and mountain cross races. Lindsey Wilson College won in almost every category and sealed the victory during the MWCCC.

You have my permission to give my e-mail address to any would be Burtons or history lovers. I hesitate to give my home phone number to the masses. Phone calls at 3 a.m. to discuss Burton history are generally discouraged by my wife. I do reserve the right for Mr. Erwin II to call for late night Burton emergencies. He sometimes calls in the dark of the night, early and late, and it is accepted in our house as a matter of the highest importance. When you find a new Burton link in the wee hours of the morning it is only natural to share the information immediately.

Today in Columbia: Heavy day in Adair Circuit Court

A heavy docket in Adair Circuit Court may mean heavier traffic and heavy demand for available parking spaces. There are 79 cases in Circuit Court, and one in District Court, on the docket for today. These , include two high profile cases.A pretrial conference is scheduled at 1:00pm CT, today, for Wellie Paul Grant, who is facing murder charges and fleeing/evading police, 1st degree, stemming from a June 10, 2006, incident at Beech Grove Church on KY 900 and the murder of prominent Columbia and Glens Fork businessman Rex Coffey. At 1:09pm, a review is scheduled for now famous escape artist, Christian Wheeler, who now faces 26 counts. Wheeler escaped custody of an Adair County Deputy Jailer on April 23, 2006, while at Westlake Regional Hospital, and was recaptured September 15, 2006. Then,at 5:00pm CT, the Adair County Project Development Board (PDB) will have its regular monthly meeting in the basement of the Adair County Annex Building. The meeting is open to the public, including all those interested in the new Adair County Justice Center. In the evening, there will be visitations for three departed members of the community, at Grissom Funeral Home for J.D. Harper, and two at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary, for Dwight Monday, and for Gary Eckert.

Pedestrian struck by a vehicle when crossing KY 289

Both pedestrian, driver, went same way tryng to avoid impact in Marion CO accident

A Carrollton, OH, woman was airlifted to UL Hospital Monday afternoon after being struck by vehicle while crossing KY 289. The vehicle had swerved to avoid the pedestrian, who went the same way attempting to avoid the vehicle.
