Adair County has sharp monthly drop in unemployment rate

Adair employment close to national level, much better than Kentucky-wide average

Adair County had much better employment picture for August 2006 than in July. Unemployment dropped from 6.0% in July 2006 to 4.8% for August of this year.

The rate was just short of the national average of 4.6%, and much better than Kentucky 5.5% rate for August.



The figure was better by one-tenth of one percent over the 4.9% figure for August of 2005, according to figures just released by the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training in the Education Cabinet.

Adair was second only to Taylor County, with a 4.5% August unemployment in the 10-county Lake Cumberland Area Development district for the latest month. Taylor County was ranked 10th best in the state for August. The 10-county picture follows:

Adair County had 8,418 persons working, out of a total civilian labor force of 8,843, the third highest labor force in the Lake Cumberland Area Development District, trailing only Pulaski County, with 27,323, and Taylor, with 12,555 in civilian labor forces.

Neighboring Metcalfe County improved 2.1%, dropping unemployment from 7.2% in July to 5.1% in August.
